Overview
- The Investment Risk Systems Engineer will focus on designing, building, and maintaining the technology platforms and integrations that support the firm s investment risk teams ensuring the systems are reliable, accurate, and aligned with business needs.
- The Risk Systems Engineer will support departments that utilize risk systems such as FactSet, BlackRock Aladdin, MSCI Risk Manager, and Bloomberg PORT, by coordinating solutions, maintaining systems, and ensuring technology is aligned with business goals.
- This role blends technical expertise with business partnership, driving innovation and operational efficiency in a mission-driven investment environment.
Hybrid Flexibility Based on Commute Distance
Candidates near Madison are encouraged to apply! Hybrid onsite requirement is based upon commute distance. Paid relocation available!
- Madison, WI area local - 3 days in-office per week
- Outside Madison within 50-mile radius 2 days in office per week
- Outside 50-mile radius (Chicago etc.) - 1 day in office per week
What You Bring to the Role (Ideal Experience)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Economics, or Finance.
- 3-5+ years of experience in application development, systems engineering, or business systems support.
- Experience with investment analytics and risk platforms preferred such as FactSet, MSCI RiskMetrics, MSCI BarraOne, BlackRock Aladdin Risk, Bloomberg PORT, Axioma Risk (Qontigo), Northfield, Yield Book or other risk platforms (Imagine, Numerix, OpenGamma, RiskFrontier etc.) is required.
- Proficiency with SQL, Python, and/or other programming languages preferred.
- Strong understanding of risk data and risk workflow processes, including data loading, security modeling, and account/composite setup.
- Ability to document and communicate complex technical information effectively.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into technology specifications.
- Experience leading projects and implementing change with minimal direction.
- Familiarity with system integration methods (APIs, ETL tools, middleware).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Understanding of ITIL practices or business process modeling preferred.
What You'll Do (Skills Used in this Position)
- Partner with business users to review, prioritize, and manage open work items and enhancement requests.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable applications and integrations that meet business needs.
- Collect and analyze requirements, translating them into functional specifications.
- Lead the maintenance and upgrades for risk systems and related interfaces (e.g., imports from IBOR (Investment Book of Record), exports to reporting data warehouse).
- Troubleshoot and resolve production errors, communicate status updates, and submit fixes to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and execute test plans to ensure functional and technical requirements are met.
Compensation and Employment
This role requires authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship. The expected base salary for this position is $140,000 160,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
