Requisition Justification UX Design Lead
This request is for a UX Design Lead to support the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) Digital Service in partnership with the Mayor's Office Innovation Team, with a focus on improving the digital experience for childcare access for New Yorkers. This role is critical to ensuring that the City's childcare digital hub delivers user-centered, accessible, and data-informed experiences for parents, caregivers, and childcare providers.
The UX Design Lead will serve as a strategic design leader and advocate for user-driven design, leveraging interaction design, visual design, and front-end design principles to create intuitive and effective digital solutions. The role will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and testing user experiences that ensure the hub functions as a comprehensive and inclusive resource for childcare information, referrals, and services across New York City.
The UX Design Lead will be responsible for final design refinements, ensuring usability, accessibility, and visual quality prior to release. Following launch, the role will focus on tracking performance metrics, analyzing user behavior, and iteratively refining the experience while leading the design and testing of new feature prototypes for future releases, including versions 2.0 and 2.0.5.
This position requires close collaboration with product managers, content strategists, developers, and cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring that design solutions align with business requirements, technical constraints, and user needs. The UX Design Lead will translate research insights and data into actionable design strategies and clearly communicate design concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
Given the public-facing and mission-driven nature of this work, the UX Design Lead must demonstrate a strong commitment to accessibility, equity, and inclusion, ensuring digital services are usable by diverse communities across the City.
