We are seeking a high-impact UI/UX Developer in San Antonio, TX, to lead the evolution of our next-generation digital workplace. This is a unique, 2-year contract-to-hire opportunity for a hands-on technical expert who can bridge the gap between human-centric design and robust front-end programming. Operating on a hybrid schedule, you will serve as the lead resource for high-visibility initiatives, collaborating directly with stakeholders to build holistic, accessible solutions. responsibilities:

Design & Strategy

  • Act as a Designer-Developer SME: Serve as the primary subject matter expert for high-visibility projects, switching seamlessly between UI/UX design and front-end programming.
  • User-Centric Prototyping: Conceptualize and create wireframes, mock-ups, and interactive prototypes to validate product strategies using a data-driven approach.
  • Innovation: Stay current on UI/UX trends and frameworks, researching and suggesting new tools or methods to advance digital initiatives.
Development & Implementation
  • Full-Cycle Development: Research, build, and test the integration of UX designs into JavaScript/Java codebases, ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Modern Frameworks: Provide hands-on development using front-end libraries (e.g., Vue.js, React, Angular, jQuery) and maintain clean, well-structured code.
  • Cross-Platform Consistency: Ensure high-quality, responsive web/mobile experiences with a focus on cross-browser compatibility and seamless performance.
Accessibility & Standards (ADA)
  • Compliance Leadership: Author clean, semantic HTML markup that strictly adheres to WCAG, ADA, and Section 508 standards.
  • Audit & Mitigation: Utilize tools like SiteImprove to identify defects and implement accessibility best practices within the front-end stack.
  • Pattern Libraries: Develop and maintain reusable, responsive code libraries and interactive patterns that meet W3C standards for HTML, CSS, and JS.
Collaboration & Support
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Business Analysts, Architects, and Full-Stack teams throughout the SDLC to define component requirements.
  • Design System Ownership: Provide ongoing support for the customer-facing design system, including the creation of new components and page templates.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in usability reviews and interface testing to ensure all solutions meet end-user needs and business goals.



qualifications:

Education & Experience


Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.


Core Experience: Extensive background in front-end web application development with strong hands-on programming.


Methodology: Proven history of working within Agile/Scrum environments and cross-functional teams.


Technical Skills:


Modern Stacks: Proficiency in at least one major language/framework: Java, JavaScript, React, Vue, or Angular (specifically within LAMP, MEAN, or MERN stacks).


HCD Expertise: Skilled in end-to-end Human-Centered Design (HCD) techniques, including research, design, and usability testing.


Strategic Design: Experience creating conceptual and detailed design solutions based on complex end-user needs.


Soft Skills: Strong ability to communicate with both business stakeholders and technology users to build holistic, high-visibility solutions.


Preferred Qualifications ("Nice-to-Haves")


Education & Certifications


Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.


Professional certifications in UI/UX Design or Web Development.


Specialized ADA & Accessibility Expertise


Compliance: Demonstrated focus on WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and ADA Title II requirements.


Tooling: Experience with enterprise scanning tools like SiteImprove or Silktide to monitor scores and track remediation.


Technical Remediation: Ability to translate accessibility scan results into actionable code-level fixes across HTML, CSS, and JS.


Document Accessibility: Familiarity with remediating Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT) and PDF files for accessibility.


Industry & Platforms


CMS Familiarity: Knowledge of Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), SharePoint, or WordPress.


Mentorship: Experience providing accessibility guidance and support to other designers, developers, and content authors.
