I. Job Summary

The Senior Manager of Data Governance will lead the development and implementation of an enterprise data governance framework that ensures the quality, consistency, security, and availability of data across the organization. The role will also oversee the execution and monitoring of data governance policies, standards, and procedures, and foster a culture of data stewardship and accountability.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary by department.


  • Define and maintain the enterprise data governance strategy, vision, and roadmap, aligned with the business objectives and priorities.

  • Establish and communicate the data governance roles and responsibilities, including data owners, data stewards, data custodians, and data consumers.

  • Develop and implement data governance policies, processes, and controls to ensure data quality, integrity, accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and compliance.

  • Identify and scope the data domains and data assets to be governed, and define the data quality metrics, rules, and standards for each data domain.

  • Facilitate the creation and maintenance of data catalogs, data dictionaries, data lineage, and data glossaries.

  • Lead and coordinate the data governance council and working groups, and ensure effective collaboration and communication among the data governance stakeholders.

  • Monitor and report on the performance and maturity of the data governance program, and identify and address the gaps and issues.

  • Promote and drive the adoption and awareness of data governance best practices, principles, and standards across the organization.

  • Provide guidance and support to the data owners, data stewards, data custodians, and data consumers on data governance related matters.

  • Manage and mentor the data governance team, and provide training and coaching to the data governance participants.



III. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

Education: Bachelors Degree (accredited) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field.

Experience: Ten years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).

Preferred Experience: 10 years of experience in data management, data quality, data governance, or related field.

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

Certification in data governance, data quality, or data management is a plus.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

May require in depth skills in one or more of the following:


  • Proven track record of leading and delivering successful data governance initiatives in large and complex organizations.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of data governance frameworks, methodologies, tools, and best practices.

  • Expertise in data quality management, data lifecycle management, data security and privacy, data standards and policies, and data stewardship.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with senior executives, business partners, and technical teams.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to handle multiple and competing priorities.
