Sr. Electrical Engineer - Substations (Hybrid)
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for an Sr. Electrical Engineer Substations for their Vancouver, WA location. This position is located within the Substation Design organization, which is responsible for developing technical electrical designs and standards for substation projects such as reactor groups, capacitor groups, station service overhauls, power transformer replacements, power circuit breaker replacements, fiber optic cabling, motor operated disconnects, Sequential Events Recorder, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions, relaying, metering, Digital Fault Recorders and Remedial Action Schemes. Substation design engineers responsibilities begin with leading a technical team that develops the scope of the project and then continues by developing technical designs for applicable project and continue as a subject matter expert through the construction and closeout phases. This position will perform electrical engineer design services for multiple complex high voltage substation projects and will work closely with the assigned Project Managers, Real Property Services, the Construction Acquisition Team, Environmental and Cultural Resources and other representatives from a wide variety of organizations. Key Responsibilities for Sr. Electrical Engineer - Substations:
- Serve as an Electrical Design Engineer on multiple manager-assigned projects in collaboration with senior management, Asset Management, the Project Definition Team, Project Engineering, high voltage Engineers, Environmental and Cultural Resources, Real Property Management and other Subject Matter Experts and representatives, providing expert electrical design engineering guidance.
- Arrange, coordinate, and facilitate multiple meetings, including with the design project team, decision making teams, status update meetings, etc. This also includes project kick-off meetings in collaboration with the assigned PM. Project kick-off meetings are attended by project sponsors, stakeholders, and partners. Utilize key stakeholders to validate approval/buy in of project plans. Coordinate with the PE to facilitate and lead the technical aspects of design kick-off meetings.
- Provide background information, technical input, options and recommendations that facilitate project decision-making. This may include, at management request, arranging, attending and facilitating decision-making sessions/meetings with management, executives and key stakeholders, including, drafting agendas, answering technical questions, and presenting information, options and recommendations for decision-maker consideration. These decision-making sessions include the Stage Gate 3 Review with the PDT and meeting with the Construction Contract Decision Team leading to the Stage Gate 4 authorization for construction.
- Arrange, coordinate and facilitate site visit(s) for the project design team and other essential personnel, which may include the Asset Manager, Customer Service Engineer, execution project PM, Planning, the design team, and as many local field personnel as can be logistically arranged. This work may include drafting the agenda, arranging travel and logistics, communication and coordination, possible overnight accommodations, introductions, facilitating the walkthrough, note and picture taking, etc. with all available parties and as much field representation as possible.
- Facilitate regular design team meetings and coordinate activities of sub-teams and other technical resources. Project design teams should not only include the requested resources assigned, but may also include the Asset Manager, assigned PM the pertinent CSE and appropriate technical or field personnel. Meeting arrangements may include room reservations, carpooling needs, and amenities, such as Skype, Phone Bridge, A/V equipment, and other meeting tools and considerations.
- Create technical electrical designs and standards for substation projects such as reactor groups, capacitor groups, station service overhauls, power transformer replacements, power circuit breaker replacements, fiber optic cabling, motor operated disconnects, SER, SCADA, relaying, metering, DFRs and RAS.
- Review and comment on technical electrical designs of substation projects submitted for review by engineering firms contracted to provide drawings. These reviews would include projects such as reactor groups, capacitor groups, station service overhauls, power transformer replacements, power circuit breaker replacements, fiber optic cabling, motor operated disconnects, SER, SCADA, relaying, metering, DFRs and RAS.
- Conduct appropriate review of Stage Gate 3 estimates, this may include distributing design information to other design project team members for their input. Alert and escalate any concerns and comments to the assigned estimator if any scope of the design is not included in the Stage Gate 3 estimates.
- Complete and facilitate technical design efforts for high voltage (69kV-500kV) substation projects including new greenfield substations, bay additions, bay modifications, transmission line re-terminations, bus replacements and re-routes, and high voltage equipment replacements.
Requirements/Qualification for Sr. Electrical Engineer - Substations:
- A Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other closely related Engineering field is required.
- With an applicable Bachelor s degree, 10 years of experience is required.
- Experience should include engineering design development closely related to some or all the following (High Voltage Substation, Telecommunication system or high voltage transmission line systems).
- 3 years working knowledge of High voltage systems, System Control, Communications, Relay planning, functional and technical specifications in a typical electric power system.
- Valid U.S. Driver s License is required.
