We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Packaging Design Engineer to collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary Integrated Product Team (IPT), including project management, applied mechanics, and electrical design. In this role, you will support a wide range of aerospace projects, such as cockpit displays, flight controls, air management systems, military avionics, and other avionics equipment. Assignments may involve either rotary-wing (helicopter) or fixed-wing aircraft platforms. Your responsibilities will include conceptual (clean sheet) design, delivering development hardware, enabling production hardware delivery, managing engineering changes to production configurations, and providing ongoing support for fielded engines.

What You Will Do
  • Resolve complex thermal and structural challenges by developing balanced, system-level solutions that ensure engineering excellence.
  • Review and approve product definition data to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Design development hardware that meets project objectives and supports on-time delivery.
  • Implement technically sound engineering changes within schedule while meeting performance goals.
  • Apply standard work practices to drive continuous improvements in the design process.
  • Support and guide other engineers on technical topics and process best practices.
  • Support thermal management, structural integrity, and electronic packaging design.
  • Support hardware development and manufacturing processes to optimize designs.
  • Utilize thermal and structural analysis software proficiently to validate designs.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Working experience with design and manufacturing processes
  • Experience in thermal and structural analysis, with proficiency using simulation tools such as ANSYS or similar.
  • Working knowledge of environmental testing equipment, procedures, and qualification standards, such as RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810G.
  • Experience in mechanical packaging for avionics
  • Working knowledge of hardware development lifecycle, from concept through production and field support.
  • Experience with engineering change management and configuration control processes.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical documentation, drawings, and specifications using CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks).

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
