Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled ADABAS DBA with strong expertise across Linux and IBM z/OS environments to support Database Managed Services (DMS) team.
This is a long-term, remote opportunity where you will serve as the primary DBA for at least one enterprise client and secondary DBA for others, providing mission-critical database support in a managed services model.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and administer ADABAS 8.x databases on z/OS and Linux platforms.
Perform performance tuning of ADABAS/Natural workloads and optimize parameters for throughput.
Design and implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity and business continuity.
Plan and execute database reorganizations, redefinitions, and space management.
Implement and manage security policies, including RACF and Natural Security integration.
Support capacity planning and ensure scalability for large, enterprise environments.
Automate routine DBA tasks using Shell, Python, or JCL/Control-M scripting.
Monitor systems proactively, respond to incidents, and ensure compliance with SLAs.
Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and business units to resolve issues and provide guidance.
Document database configurations, procedures, and incident resolutions; support audits and compliance reviews.
Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, including weekend and after-hours coverage.
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of DBA experience with ADABAS in enterprise environments.
Strong hands-on experience with ADABAS utilities (BACKUP, RESTORE, REORG, AOPT, ASRV).
Expertise with IBM z/OS (ISPF, TSO, SDSF, JCL, SMF) and mainframe database management.
Proficiency in Linux system administration (RHEL/CentOS), including command-line tools, scripting, and automation.
Familiarity with job scheduling (Control-M, CA-7, or z/OS scheduler).
Knowledge of data integrity and quality assurance practices, including PLOG/CLOG management.
Strong security and compliance background (RACF, Natural Security, encryption, PCI/GDPR/HIPAA/NIST 800-53).
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills across both distributed and mainframe platforms.
Strong communication skills with ability to work in a managed services team model.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Adabas Cluster Services, Parallel Services, or Replication Services.
Knowledge of Natural 9.x, NaturalONE, CONNX, Net-Work.
Prior experience in a Database Managed Services environment.
Familiarity with Agile/DevOps practices for change management.
