Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Sr. GIS Developer with expertise in geospatial data processing and cloud-based deployment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Python development, GIS data formats, and experience working with both raster and vector datasets. This role will involve building and optimizing geospatial data pipelines, data collection solutions, developing tile generation processes, and integrating data services into mapping platforms both Web and Mobile.

Job Goals:

  • Enhance Geospatial Data Infrastructure: Design and maintain robust, scalable pipelines for processing and delivering large-scale raster and vector geospatial datasets, ensuring high performance and reliability across web and mobile platforms.
  • Advance Cloud-Integrated Mapping Solutions: Leverage cloud technologies - particularly Azure services - to deploy and integrate geospatial data services that support real-time access, storage, and processing for internal and external applications.
  • Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration for Spatial Intelligence: Partner with data collection teams, analysts, and developers to translate spatial data into actionable insights, enabling smarter decision-making through well-integrated GIS applications and APIs.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain GIS applications and data processing pipelines.
  • Work with large-scale geospatial datasets using GDAL and PDAL for processing raster and point cloud data.
  • Implement raster and vector tiling systems for efficient web mapping and data delivery.
  • Integrate geospatial data services with Azure for scalable storage, processing, and deployment (blob, service bus, functions).
  • Develop APIs or backend services supporting geospatial workflows.
  • Collaborate with data collection teams, data analysts, and software developers to deliver spatial data applications and services.


Qualifications

This is a remote opportunity. Candidates in Dallas, Orlando, Maumee, and Phoenix preferred.

As a remote team member you will be required to pick-up your equipment and be onsite in your first week of employment.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in GIS development.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and master new technologies
  • Proficient in Python, with hands-on experience using libraries such as GDAL/PDAL.
  • Strong understanding of raster and vector data formats, coordinate systems, and geospatial standards.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, especially Azure (e.g., Azure Functions, Blob Storage, Service Bus).
  • Experience with geospatial databases (e.g., PostGIS), spatial indexing, performance tuning, and crafting efficient spatial queries.
  • Experience with Point Clouds and 3D models.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker) and CI/CD workflows.
  • Familiarity with spatial data governance, metadata standards, and data versioning.
  • Experience integrating data with Mapbox GL JS or other web mapping platforms.
  • Building and consuming RESTful and OGC-compliant services.
  • Working with geospatial servers like GeoServer, MapServer, or GeoDjango.
  • Familiarity with Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFFs
  • Visualizing 3D scenes in the browser using Cesium or Mapbox 3D
  • Familiarity with ESRI Products.
