Our client is looking for a Technology is seeking a skilled Communications Plant Technician for a 12-month contract to lead and maintain the organization's cable plant infrastructure. This hands-on role is essential to the performance, reliability, and safety of our communications systems. The technician will oversee the full lifecycle of cable plant operations, from
physical layer design and installation to support of specialized technologies like paging systems and DAS. This role supports critical IT operations across facilities and is a vital contributor to data center readiness, emergency response, and ongoing infrastructure reliability.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of cable plant infrastructure, including
planning, installation, and maintenance.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot network and voice cabling
systems to support clinical and administrative operations.
- Service and support overhead paging systems (analog and IP-
based) across sites.
- Implement and maintain critical communication systems, including
800MHz Radio and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).
- Design and oversee physical layer installations in data centers and
IT closets, ensuring alignment with network performance standards.
- Conduct environmental monitoring across facilities in the
Sacramento region.
- Maintain underground communication infrastructure, including
fiber/copper backbone systems, conduits, and vaults.
- Create and maintain detailed cable plant documentation, including
fiber panel layouts and circuit ID allocations.
- Develop and manage ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment)
permits throughout the life of telecom projects.
- Respond to incidents, service requests, and infrastructure alerts
within defined service levels.
- Support physical security of data centers and telecom rooms;
participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for system failures or
environmental alarms.
Required Technical Experience
- 5+ years of experience in cable plant operations with a focus on network and telecom
infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling, including installation and troubleshooting of copper and
fiber systems.
- Hands-on experience with analog/IP paging systems, DAS, and 800MHz radio technologies.
- Demonstrated expertise in physical layer design and installation within data centers and telecom
rooms.
- Experience conducting and interpreting environmental monitoring for infrastructure risk
management.
- Proven ability to maintain underground infrastructure (fiber/copper backbones, conduits, vaults).
- Proficient in using DCIM platforms and design/documentation tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio).
- Strong documentation skills, including cable plant records, ICRA compliance, and fiber panel
mapping.
- Familiarity with infection control permitting in healthcare or regulated environments.
- Ability to manage service tickets, meet SLAs, and participate in 24/7 on-call rotations.
