Job Details

The Technical Writer III will be responsible for planning, creating, managing, and delivering content to help users understand and use technology. This role is integral to engineering and user experience teams. The successful candidate will design and establish style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations, develop a knowledge management strategy, and create, compile, and organize technical documents for both internal and external use.

Responsibilities:

  • Map existing Responsible AI workflows by consulting with identified Points of Contact (PoCs).
  • Use expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence systems to develop documentation and educational materials that guide Google's product teams in executing AI/ML projects.
  • Produce clear, succinct, and well-organized educational materials tailored to a technical audience.
  • Understand project constraints, scope work, communicate content creation plans, and secure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Determine the appropriate level of detail for complex technical information and write technical documentation in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Manage community-driven documentation and encourage active contributions.
  • Review, revise, modify, or edit documents prepared by researchers, engineers, and policy experts.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to improve quality and increase the adoption of published information.
  • Research, establish, and enforce guidance in alignment with company strategy and tooling roadmap.
  • Develop, mobilize, and execute a knowledge management strategy for a growing and changing complex domain space.

Ongoing Responsibilities:

  • Develop new or update existing documentation on a weekly basis.
  • Participate in weekly update meetings and ad hoc meetings with subject matter experts to gather necessary information.
  • Process data to measure the reach, quality, and impact of documentation on a monthly basis.
  • Deliver timely status reports on key operational indicators monthly.
  • Provide weekly updates on assigned work.
  • Develop marketing materials to promote the use of documentation at launch.
  • Establish style guidelines and standards for projects.
  • Guide the integration of adjacent projects' timelines, goals, and objectives on a weekly basis.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support quality improvement and increased adoption of information based on inputs from cross-functional PoCs.
  • Adhere to document control procedures and support their development and implementation.
  • Identify and remediate gaps, redundancies, or conflicts across documentation.
  • Create technical architecture diagrams that align with current product language and branding.
  • Create end-to-end whitepapers and blog copywriting.
  • Research, establish, and enforce guidance for compliance with legal and branding requirements.

Recommended Background:

  • ML/AI Experience: Experience in the life cycle of an ML system or product.
  • Technical Experience: Experience working with code and documenting complex systems and processes in software engineering, such as data structures.
  • Prior Experience: Experience at Google or a similar tech company is preferred.
