Sitting parallel to MQ environment is a system called BMW (secured system) It was put in place in the 1990s. It's reliable, and there are not much errors, but it needs maintenance/admin support
It's in place because it is a checkpoint for the MQ environment. It is like an audit system.
Understand how MQ works and MQ architecture
If someone understands MQ well enough they will be able to administer this system
It has 14-15 apps it supports which are mainframe apps (COBOL)
2 locations - 4 days a week in office
has to support east coast hours.

MQ Support Engineer
We are looking for an experienced MQ Support Engineer to support and maintain IBM MQ environments and ensure reliable integration across critical applications. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting, performance tuning, and close collaboration with application and infrastructure teams within a z/OS mainframe ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support for applications utilizing IBM MQ, ensuring smooth message processing and integration across systems.
Troubleshoot and optimize MQ message flows, particularly in environments where CICS (Customer Information Control System) is a key transaction processing component.
Analyze CICS logs to trace MQ-related transaction activity, identify errors, and understand message flow behavior across batch and online systems.
Work closely with developers, system administrators, and infrastructure teams to configure and maintain efficient MQ queue structures.
Monitor and ensure the high availability and performance of MQ-based applications, proactively addressing issues.
Support and maintain an internal MQ interface website that displays monitoring data; assist with enhancements and troubleshooting.
Document MQ configurations, support procedures, and troubleshooting best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong hands-on experience with IBM MQ, including configuration, support, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
Experience analyzing CICS logs, especially for tracing MQ-triggered transactions and identifying performance bottlenecks.
Proficiency with JCL (Job Control Language) for managing batch jobs and integrating MQ within z/OS processes.
In-depth knowledge of z/OS mainframe environments, including batch and online application workflows.
Experience supporting applications that rely on message queues for inter-process communication.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to debug complex MQ and application integration issues.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, problem-solving approach.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Exposure to C and/or COBOL for maintaining or enhancing MQ-related interfaces.
Previous experience in banking, finance, or other highly regulated industries.
Experience with MQ performance monitoring, message persistence, and clustering.
Knowledge of middleware integration patterns and enterprise messaging architectures.
Understanding of MQ security, and experience with DevOps tools and automation for managing MQ environments.
