Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin, TX three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business if more than 3 days].

The Role

The Senior Software Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and delivering new and innovative data driven solutions that are elegant and professional. Our team focuses on writing maintainable data pipelines, tests and code that meet the customer's need and scale without significant rework. Our engineers and architects work in highly collaborative environments across many disciplines (user experience, database, streaming technology, custom rules engines, and ai/ml and most web technologies). We work on cutting edge technologies - understanding and inventing new designs and integration patterns along the way. Our development managers must -
  • Maintain deep understanding of architectures, frameworks, and solutions that influence the industry and drive opportunities.
  • Be a technology expert across software, infrastructure, build, deployment, and engineering and Architectural process
  • Lead and deliver exceptional data driven solutions across many different languages, tools and technology
  • Mentor and develop technical talent who are early career (new college hires) as well as experienced data engineers
  • Develop a culture which takes challenging and complex ideas and turns them into production solutions
  • Have a broad, enterprise-wide view of business and varying degrees of appreciating for strategy, process, capabilities, enablers, and governance
  • Be able to critically apply themselves to solving problems in an interconnected and integrated environment
  • Must have the managerial courage to challenge the norm and define creative solutions for problems that arise
  • Think strategically about adopting new technologies that are beyond the horizon and deliver on sound architectural design
  • Create high-level models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business architecture.

  • Demonstrating the ability to translate complex requirements into functional, secure, reliable, observable and serviceable architectures and solutions.
  • Working towards continuously raising our standard of engineering excellence in quality, efficiency, and developing repeatable designs.
  • Being a trusted advisor with ability to build lasting relationships, communicate effectively, and work cross-functionally with diverse global teams.
  • Showcase thought leadership with a demonstrable presence including patents, industry standards, blogs, whitepapers, industry events etc.
  • Role model and motivated learner who actively mentors and sponsors others and participates in in solution delivery.
  • Exposure to different project methodologies including Agile software development and cloud-based implementation frameworks.


Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 12+ years of engineering/development experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer science, Data Science, Information Systems/related field or relevant experience.
  • Management experience of deep technical resources, ability to build technical talent and bench strength, leader of technical talent
  • Demonstrated experience in Microservices, Data Streaming, Big Data, Cloud solution architectures required
  • Hands-on expertise with AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform/Kubernetes and/or Cloud certifications, including cost considerations & cost optimization strategies across various services
  • Exposure to software defined networking, zero trust security models, micro segmentation and second layer of defense technologies
  • Working knowledge of most common protocols HTTPS
  • Working knowledge of Open API and OAuth
  • Working knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, Object Storage (ADLS/S3), Event Queues
  • Demonstrated knowledge and implementation experience of Data Streaming architectures and design principles
  • Hands on Experience with stream processing in Kubernetes

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Compensation:
  • The expected base compensation for this role is: $165,000- $253,200. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
