Job Details

Job Title: Apache Solr Administrator (ELK Stack)

Duartion: Long Term

Location: NYC, NY

Key Responsibilities

Apache Solr (Primary)

Lead Solr administration across non-prod and prod environments.

Operate SolrCloud (ZooKeeper, shards, replicas, leader election).

Perform deep JVM tuning (heap/off-heap, threads, caches).

Diagnose and resolve search performance issues (CPU, latency, throughput, memory leaks).

Optimize high-volume indexing (commit strategies, merge policies).

Enforce security and HA (TLS, RBAC, audits, zero-downtime upgrades).

ELK Stack (Secondary)

Design and run Elasticsearch clusters for PoCs and production.

Tune mappings, shards, JVM, and query DSL.

Secure Elasticsearch using TLS and role-based access control.

Implement observability and alerting (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic).

Platform Operations

Execute capacity planning, benchmarking, and RCAs for search platforms.

Ensure documentation, runbooks, and operational best practices.

Lucidworks Fusion (Preferred)

Install, configure, and support Fusion (on-prem/cloud).

Manage custom Fusion JARs, patches, and vendor-led upgrades.

Build and tune ingestion and query pipelines.

Troubleshoot Fusion/Spark and connector failures.

Required Skills (Must-Have)

4 5 years of hands-on Apache Solr administration experience.

Deep expertise with SolrCloud operations and JVM tuning.

Strong troubleshooting skills for performance, indexing, and query optimization.

Solid understanding of TLS, RBAC, HA, and zero-downtime upgrades.

Experience supporting Lucidworks Fusion (installation, pipelines, upgrades).

Secondary/Optional Skills (Good to Have)

ELK stack administration: Elasticsearch (PoCs & production), Logstash/Kibana exposure.

Observability tooling: Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic.

Spark connectors and ingestion pipeline tuning.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
