About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Administrator to manage, maintain, and support mission-critical mainframe environments, primarily on z/OS. This role focuses on the administration of system software, coordination with hosting teams, patching and upgrading infrastructure, and supporting application environments built using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in mainframe systems programming and a hands-on approach to maintaining high availability and performance across development, test, and production environments.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Coordinate with mainframe hosting providers to ensure system stability, performance, and uptime.
  • Perform patching, software upgrades, and handle out-of-support components for z/OS environments.
  • Support application teams using COBOL, DB2, JCL, and CICS, providing infrastructure-level troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Execute system backups for UAT and Build environments to ensure recoverability and data integrity.
  • Administer DB2 databases, including creating tables, modifying schemas (e.g., adding columns), and coordinating database changes.
  • Leverage IBM mainframe utilities (e.g., IEBGENER, IDCAMS, SORT) for daily operations and administrative tasks.
  • Isolate and resolve infrastructure-level bugs affecting application or system performance.
  • Perform systems programming tasks including automation, monitoring setup, resource tuning, and problem resolution in a z/OS environment.

Who you are:

Experience Required:

  • 14+ years of experience in mainframe environments with a strong focus on systems administration and infrastructure support.
  • Proficient in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2 from an operational and support standpoint.
  • Hands-on experience with z/OS systems programming, including patching, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of mainframe utilities such as IDCAMS, IEBGENER, and SORT.
  • Proven experience in bug isolation and resolution within a mainframe infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with DB2 DDL changes (e.g., creating tables, adding columns).
  • Experience performing environment backups and coordinating recovery for UAT/build systems.

Preferred/Desirable Skills:

  • Exposure to RACF or other mainframe security tools.
  • Experience with automation and monitoring tools for mainframe environments.
  • Previous experience in coordinating with managed hosting providers or hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Understanding of performance tuning techniques on z/OS.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
