Senior Technical Writer - Onsite in Austin, TX - 2+ Month Contract

We're seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer to join an IT Division in Austin, TX. This is a highly autonomous, onsite role ideal for a documentation expert with a strong understanding of IT environments and a talent for producing policy, procedural, and technical materials. If you can craft complex technical content for diverse audiences from end-users to executive leadership this opportunity offers immediate impact and visibility.
What You ll Do:

Develop and maintain user guides, technical documentation, process documentation, and IT policies and procedures

Structure complex technical and procedural content into logical, user-friendly formats

Research, analyze, and organize data to create reports, manuals, presentations, and operational materials

Support IT teams in documenting infrastructure, systems, standards, and governance plans

Translate technical concepts into accessible content for various stakeholders, including executive-level audiences

Coordinate visual elements and content layout when necessary
-
Conduct data analysis to support quality improvement, streamline workflows, and drive performance metrics

Present documentation and findings to internal teams and stakeholders

Ensure 100% accuracy in spelling, grammar, formatting, and content integrity
Minimum Required Experience:
-
8+ years creating and editing technical documents, operational guidelines, and procedural manuals

8+ years researching and organizing policy/procedural/technical content
-
8+ years consulting with technical staff to develop clear and concise documentation
-
6+ years preparing reports, surveys, and formal responses for senior leadership and external stakeholders

6+ years presenting policy and documentation updates to executive or C-Level teams
Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years of experience in public sector or government IT writing roles

Familiarity with IT governance, policies, and standards

Knowledge of Six Sigma and ITIL methodologies
