What You Will Do
The Materials Science in Radiation and Dynamics Extremes (MST-8) team is seeking a driven and experienced industrial systems engineer to support critical radiological materials processing missions at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In this role you will lead efforts related to installation and commissioning of multiple customer's equipment pieces and support troubleshooting operational, technical, authorization and safety basis challenges. The primary responsibility will be the oversight of customized and off-the-shelf equipment introduction into processing facilities in accordance with LANL's disciplined and safe operational regulatory environment.
The aforementioned effort will require the individual to act as liaison between nuclear processing facilities and organizations that facilitate installation and commissioning of specialized equipment. Once a facility is established, the individual will ensure that protocols exist for the safe and continuous operation of the facility to meet customers' requirements within LANL's regulatory environment in addition to lead the application of lessons learned and apply quality systems engineering concepts to maintain productivity. The selected candidate will utilize strong technical, professional, and leadership background, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify, analyze, and resolve complex production issues. You'll also influence strategic decisions, drive continuous improvement, budget and schedule, and facilitate effective communication between technical, operational, and managerial teams.
This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Education/Experience R&D Engineer 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience R&D Engineer 3: Position requires a Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

- Experience overseeing equipment installation, commissioning and testing.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production organization with defined manufacturing, testing, safety, and quality requirements.
- Experience with production operations, qualification processes, and interfacing effectively with external and internal stakeholders.
- Proven success collaborating across multiple organizational boundaries and fostering inclusive, high-performing teams.
- Project management involvement with key dates, deliverables and communication of projects and team status.
- Experience tracking of status of complex activities involving detailed budget and scheduling control and adjustments.
- Experience supporting maintenance of existing work-authorizing documents and develop new work-authorizing documents that support the team's work.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Conduct of Operations in a nuclear or radiological facility.
