The DevOps Engineer I is responsible for supporting, automating, and optimizing deployment pipelines, internal tooling, and infrastructure across the organization. This role bridges software development and IT operations. It focuses on scripting, infrastructure automation, systems reliability, and hands-on collaboration with IT, engineering, and operations teams in a dynamic on-site environment. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in C#, PowerShell, and IT systems, along with the initiative to drive unified tooling practices across departments.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Automation & Tooling

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and internal tools using C# and PowerShell.
  • Streamline IT and operational workflows through scripting, integration, and lightweight tool development.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify automation opportunities and deliver scalable solutions.

Unified Toolchain & Cross-Departmental Enablement

  • Participate in efforts to standardize tools and workflows across engineering, IT, support, and operations teams.
  • Evaluate and implement DevOps tools that reduce duplication and improve consistency across environments.
  • Document best practices and work with stakeholders to align tool usage (e.g., monitoring, ticketing, code deployment, source control).

CI/CD & Deployment Support

  • Contribute to the design and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps or Bitbucket Pipelines.
  • Assist with source control management, branching strategies, and release automation.
  • Provide support for deployment issues and work to reduce manual steps through automation.

Systems Operations & Monitoring

  • Participate in system monitoring and alerting using tools like Zabbix or Azure Monitor.
  • Assist with incident response, root cause analysis, and remediations across application and infrastructure layers.
  • Assist with physical infrastructure tasks such as racking hardware, setting up environments, and coordinating with on-prem systems.
  • Support Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, certificates, and Linux systems.

Cloud & Infrastructure Exposure

  • Support deployment and infrastructure projects in Azure, including App Services, VMs, networking, and containerized workloads (Docker/Kubernetes exposure a plus).
  • Contribute to infrastructure automation efforts (exposure to Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates a plus).

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain version-controlled documentation of scripts, tools, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives and cross-functional meetings to align goals across departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in DevOps, infrastructure automation, or adjacent IT roles (help desk/sysadmin experience with strong scripting also considered)
  • Proficiency in C#/.NET and PowerShell
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools, especially Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum environments is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, Windows Server, networking basics, and monitoring tools
  • Experience with Git and source control workflows
  • Exposure to Azure or cloud automation is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative mindset
  • Self-starter mindset with ownership of initiatives from planning through execution
  • Must be available for full-time on-site work and comfortable working closely with IT infrastructure, physical networking, and server environments.
