Software Engineer Senior SQL Developer
Location: Plano, TX (Hybrid - 4 days onsite required)

Work Model:
Minimum 4 days onsite. Most employees work Mon Thurs onsite, Friday WFH
Strict onsite requirement 2 days/week onsite is not acceptable

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior SQL Engineer to lead the design and implementation of SQL-based solutions powering our critical applications and workflows. This role goes beyond writing SQL code - it's about defining standards, mentoring peers, owning architecture, and enabling productivity through AI, CI/CD, and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and optimize SQL Server solutions including stored procedures, ETL packages (SSIS), and schema designs.
  • Lead performance tuning, root cause analysis, and system-level SQL improvements.
  • Collaborate across business, QA, and infrastructure teams to define requirements and deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Drive the adoption of CI/CD pipelines for SQL deployments using GitLab or similar tools.
  • Use VS Code, SSMS, and Visual Studio for scalable development and debugging.
  • Enforce Git workflows (e.g., feature branching, pull requests) and conduct peer code reviews.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior engineers and promote documentation best practices.
  • Champion the use of AI-assisted tooling (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) to drive efficiency, automation, and quality in development.

Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years of experience with SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, and stored procedure development.
  • Proven expertise in performance tuning and data modeling.
  • Strong proficiency with VS Code, SSMS, Visual Studio, Git/GitLab, and Agile delivery.
  • Experience leading delivery of large-scale SQL/ETL solutions from requirements to deployment.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, unit testing frameworks (e.g., tSQLt), and AI-driven coding tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.

Bonus Experience

  • Cloud platform experience (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, etc.)
  • Dimensional modeling, OLAP/BI reporting backends
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR
Top 4 Core Technical Skill Priorities:
1. SQL Server Expertise (Primary Focus):
Stored procedures, user-defined functions, linked servers
SSIS experience required
2. Full-Stack Exposure (Secondary, but important):
Backend and basic frontend understanding
Comfortable working across:
.NET / C#
Python (web apps, services, APIs)
SQL Server and PostgreSQL
3. AI/ML Coding Tools Experience (Non-Negotiable):
Must be actively leveraging AI tooling in development
Tools in use or being adopted:
ChatGPT (Enterprise)
OpenAI APIs
GitHub Copilot (via VS Code)
Must be resourceful, set the tone for AI enablement in team
4. Cloud Experience (Preferred):
AWS is preferred (new platform being built there)
Azure is acceptable if candidate is strong overall
Experience migrating from on-prem to AWS is a plus

Other Technical Notes:
CI/CD: Mix of teams - some already have pipelines, others may require setup. Experience building CI/CD is a plus.
Dev Environment: Mix of open-source and Microsoft stack
Frontend work: Not a major focus but ability to work on full-stack (especially backend APIs) is valuable

Industry Preference (Not Required):
Preferred: Healthcare or Financial Services experience
Acceptable: Any highly regulated industry (familiarity with HIPAA/GDPR is a bonus
