Job Details
Network Juniper Engineer
Houston, TX (Onsite)
Key Responsibilities:
- Juniper Network Design & Implementation:
- Design, plan, and implement complex network solutions utilizing Juniper routers (e.g., MX Series, PTX Series) and Juniper switches (e.g., EX Series, QFX Series).
- Develop and maintain network architecture documentation, including logical and physical diagrams.
- Lead network upgrade and expansion projects, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Configuration & Management:
- Configure and manage Juniper Junos OS across various network devices.
- Implement and maintain routing protocols, including OSPF, BGP, ISIS, and MPLS.
- Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), EtherChannel/LACP, and other Layer 2 technologies.
- Manage and optimize network performance through QoS policies and traffic shaping.
- Implement and maintain network security features, including firewalls (Juniper SRX Series), VPNs (IPsec VPN, SSL VPN), and access control lists (ACLs).
- Troubleshooting & Support:
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex network issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
- Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., Junos Space, SolarWinds, Nagios) to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for critical network incidents.
- Perform routine network health checks and preventative maintenance.
- Network Security:
- Implement and enforce network security policies and best practices using Juniper SRX firewalls and other security appliances.
- Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
- Documentation & Collaboration:
- Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including server, security, and application teams, to ensure seamless integration and operation of services.
- Mentor junior network engineers and share knowledge within the team.
Required Skills & Experience (Main Keywords):
- 5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer, with a strong focus on Juniper Networks.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Juniper routers (MX, PTX) and Juniper switches (EX, QFX).
- In-depth knowledge of Junos OS configuration and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, ISIS, MPLS.
- Solid understanding of Layer 2 technologies: VLANs, STP, EtherChannel/LACP.
- Experience with Juniper SRX Series firewalls and network security concepts (VPN, ACLs, NAT).
- Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools (Junos Space preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Onsite presence in Houston, TX is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Juniper certification(s) such as JNCIE-SP, JNCIE-ENT, JNCIP-SP, JNCIP-ENT, JNCIA-Junos, JNCIS-SP, JNCIS-ENT. (Highlighting the highest relevant certification is key).
- Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible, YAML).
- Knowledge of cloud networking concepts (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- Experience with SD-WAN technologies (e.g., Juniper Contrail, Versa Networks).
- Familiarity with ITIL framework.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
