Role Title: Platform Engineer Architect
Location: Atlanta, GA or Jersey City, NJ
Duration 6-12 Months

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer Architect to lead the design, governance, and scaling of infrastructure platforms with a strong emphasis on resiliency, automation, and cross-functional collaboration. This is a hands-on architecture role that will partner closely with Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), application engineering teams, and business stakeholders to enable consistent, scalable, and secure platform services aligned with the broader Platform Engineering & Architecture (PEA) vision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the enterprise platform catalog, enforcing infrastructure design and governance standards.
  • Architect highly available, fault-tolerant infrastructure across compute, storage, networking, and security domains.
  • Define and implement resilience patterns and failure domains aligned with disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and SRE teams to deliver scalable and reusable platform services.
  • Evangelize architectural best practices and drive platform standardization and adoption across engineering teams.
Core Skills & Technologies:
  • Host Platforms: Webfarm, Treadmill, MKS (Morgan Kubernetes Service)
  • Compute: Virtual Machines, Containers (Docker, Kubernetes), Serverless
  • Storage: Object and File Storage (e.g., S3, NFS)
  • Databases: SQL, NoSQL, Time-Series (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, InfluxDB)
  • Messaging: Kafka, MQ (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ)
  • Observability: Metrics, Logs, Tracing (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK stack)
  • Security: Authentication, Secrets Management (Vault), Audit Trails
  • Networking: Ingress Controllers, DNS, Service Mesh (e.g., Istio, Linkerd)
Evaluation Criteria: 1. Technical Depth in Platform Engineering
  • Deep hands-on knowledge across core infrastructure domains (compute, storage, networking, messaging, databases).
  • Strong command over Kubernetes platforms, including ecosystem tooling such as Helm, Terraform, and CI/CD integrations.
2. Architectural Thinking & System Design
  • Proven experience in designing resilient, scalable, multi-region platforms with robust HA/DR strategies.
  • Ability to define and enforce architecture standards and reference models across product teams.
3. Collaboration & Influence
  • Track record of influencing engineering and SRE teams in a matrixed organizational structure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to articulate and promote platform initiatives.
4. Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Expertise in building reusable, scalable IaC modules using Terraform, Helm, and automation pipelines.
  • Developed or contributed to self-service infrastructure frameworks to drive delivery velocity.
5. Observability, Security & Governance
  • Embedded security, observability, and governance into the platform lifecycle.
  • Implemented secrets management, compliance controls, and end-to-end monitoring from infrastructure to application layers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure Architecture roles.
  • Hands-on experience in financial services or regulated industries is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CKA, Terraform Associate, AWS/Google Cloud Platform/Azure Architect) preferred.
