Position s Contributions to Work Group:
We are seeking a hands on Lab Technician to build, modify, and maintain wiring harnesses and load plates that power our Hardware in the Loop (HIL) benches and other lab equipment. In this role, you ll interpret electrical schematics and pin maps, assemble connectors and terminations to industry standards, implement engineering change orders (ECOs) and redlines on existing harnesses, and ensure our benches and fixtures are safe, labeled, and test ready. You ll collaborate closely with electrical/mechanical/validation engineers to keep our test infrastructure reliable, documented, and scalable.

Typical task breakdown:
  • Harness fabrication & rework:
  • Build custom wiring harnesses from drawings, schematics, and pinout tables (breakouts, trunk/branch looms, shielded/twisted pairs, coax/RF as applicable).
  • Perform precision crimping, soldering, splicing (e.g., butt splice, solder sleeves), heat shrink/boot application, braiding/looming/lacing, strain relief, and cable management.
  • Apply labels, heat shrink markers, and color codes; maintain consistent routing and bend radius practices.
  • Execute continuity, insulation resistance, and (where specified) hipot tests; log and resolve defects.
  • Load plate/build panel assembly:
  • Assemble load plates / I/O plates / patch panels to interface ECUUTs with HIL benches (e.g., resistor networks, relays, fusing, terminal blocks, fault insertion interfaces, protection/conditioning circuits).
  • Mount and wire DIN rail components, power distribution, and grounding; verify loads, ratings, and derating; ensure panel labeling and documentation.
  • HIL bench support:
  • Modify existing harnesses and panels per ECOs/redlines, update pin maps and drawings, and verify changes on bench.
  • Support benches bring up, signal checkout, and debug with engineers (CAN/LIN/Ethernet/analog/digital I/O, power rails, grounds, shielding).
  • Maintain HIL bench uptime: tidy cable routing, quick turn rework, connector repairs, spare parts inventory.
  • Documentation & quality:
  • Read/interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, connector datasheets, and harness drawings; generate/update BOMs, pin maps, and as built records.
  • Follow IPC/WHMA A 620 workmanship and ESD practices; adhere to 5S and lab safety procedures.
  • Track work via tickets/ECOs; record test results and traceability (part/lot numbers, crimp tool calibration, torque values).
  • Lab operations:
  • Manage consumables and components (wire gauges/types, terminals, contacts, housings, back shells, heat shrink, fuses).
  • Calibrate or flag equipment (crimp tools, DMMs, labelers, cable testers); coordinate RMA/repairs as needed.
  • Assist with other fixtures and test tools (simple machining, panel drilling, 3D printed brackets nice to have).

Education & Experience Required:
  • Years of experience: 2+ years (or equivalent hands on training) building and reworking wiring harnesses and panels in a lab, prototype, or production environment.
  • Proficiency with crimping and soldering to industry standards; comfortable with shield terminations, splices, and back shells.
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and connector pinouts; experience creating/maintaining pin maps.
  • Degree requirement: HS Diploma required. Technical Certification highly recommended. Bachelor s degree is acceptable. Master s degree is overqualified.

Soft Skills:
  • Meticulous craftsmanship and first time right mindset.
  • Clear communication with engineers and peers; proactive in clarifying requirements.
  • Time management across multiple builds and quick turn rework.
  • Ownership for safety, quality, and bench uptime.

Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $34.00 - $35.00/hr. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience and the benefits package you select. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages. Packages may include medical, dental, and vision benefits, 10 paid days off, 401(k) plan participation, commuter benefits and life and disability insurance.
