Your role at GEI.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn from our senior staff and gain a wide range of experience. Candidates will work with engineers and other technical resource staff to contribute to development of projects from conception to completed construction. Work in the field to support a variety of engineering projects may also be assigned. This position will support GEI's civil/water resources, structural, and geotechnical/geological engineering practices, which provide services in a wide range of settings. Representative projects for the position include supporting exploration programs such as soil and rock core sampling and testing, facilities inspections (dams, penstocks, hydraulic structures, levees, canals, etc.) and documentation, supporting civil, geotechnical, and hydraulic engineering analysis and design including data collection, and preparation of maps, figures and project related other documentation.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Support work in the following engineering disciplines: Civil / Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology (Dam Safety, Water Infrastructure, Building Foundations) and Water Resources (Hydrology and Hydraulics).
  • Develop spreadsheets and databases.
  • Support preparing and revising project plans, specifications, construction scheduling and cost estimates.
  • Support engineering design and analysis workload for civil, hydraulic structures, and geotechnical projects.
  • Assist with project drafting in CAD.
  • Perform field work as needed to support projects including but not limited to field observation and data collection, soil and water sample collection, drill rig observation, and support of other field investigations.
  • Work will be directed by various project managers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of college work towards a bachelor's degree in Civil / Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology (Dam Safety, Water Infrastructure, Building Foundations) and Water Resources (Hydrology and Hydraulics).
  • Experience in summer internship, or other professional position, strongly preferred.
  • Ability to perform field work without restrictions, and in inclement weather if required.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, willingness to travel on temporary assignments as needed.
  • A valid driver's license and willing to work in the field as required.
