Network Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain a secure, reliable, and efficient network, telecommunications, and storage infrastructure to support daily operations. This position also involves serving as a mentor to team members, offering technical leadership, and ensuring consistent communication and alignment across the IT organization. The role requires a forward-looking professional who can guide technology adoption and advocate for effective infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical resource in defining and maintaining networking standards, best practices, and architectural documentation.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced IT staff while effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Plan, deploy, and support enterprise LAN/WAN environments, including routing, switching, and related carrier services.
  • Administer and maintain enterprise voice systems and related applications.
  • Oversee secure wireless networks for employees as well as public access connectivity where appropriate.
  • Ensure proper documentation of network systems, practices, and procedures.
  • Install, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN hardware, network security devices, and related infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving networking equipment, communications systems, and related devices.
  • Manage physical connectivity including fiber and copper cabling, addressing issues as they arise.
  • Apply updates, patches, and security configurations to networking hardware as necessary to ensure stability and protection.
  • Coordinate with external vendors on structured cabling or technology implementation projects.
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on network equipment to maintain compliance with standards.
  • Work to ensure secure, reliable access to information while balancing user accessibility and system integrity.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service-level expectations related to networking services.
  • Develop an understanding of business-critical systems and how they interact with networking infrastructure.
  • Provide strong written and verbal communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours network support in a 24x7 environment.
  • Support IT operations including change, incident, and problem management processes.
  • Be flexible to perform occasional work outside standard hours when necessary.
  • Engage in continuous improvement efforts to refine systems, processes, and overall service quality.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and evaluate new networking technologies for potential adoption.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in a related technical field, or an equivalent mix of education, certifications, and hands-on experience.
  • Advanced Cisco knowledge at a professional certification level (e.g., CCNP or equivalent).
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in network and security engineering roles.
  • Experience with telecommunications services such as MPLS, ISP, and voice systems.
  • Expert level experience in routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, and dynamic routing protocols (BGP preferred).
  • Expert knowledge of firewall technologies (Checkpoint Firewall experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of web filtering, load balancing, and related technologies.
  • Experience administering VoIP, SIP, and other voice-related platforms.
  • General knowledge of server integration with networking environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
