Position: Mainframe Developer
Location: Wilmington, DE (Weekly 5 days office is Must)
Duration: Contract
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, code, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS DB/DC, CICS, VSAM, and IBM MQ.
* Develop and support batch and online processes, including job streams, transaction systems, and message-driven programs.
* Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
* Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
* Troubleshoot application issues and provide timely resolutions, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
* Optimize mainframe code and database access for performance and scalability.
* Work with system analysts, QA testers, and infrastructure teams to ensure system integrity and quality.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of technical designs, codebases, and processes.
* Support production jobs and on-call troubleshooting as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
* 3 8 years of hands-on experience with the following mainframe technologies:
o COBOL (batch and online)
o JCL (Job Control Language)
o CICS (Customer Information Control System)
o DB2 and/or IMS DB
o VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method)
o IMS DC (Transaction Management)
o IBM MQ (Message Queueing)
* Familiarity with tools such as TSO/ISPF, File-AID, Abend-AID, and version control (e.g., Endevor or Change man)
* Strong analytical and debugging skills.
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
* Good communication skills for collaboration with business analysts and QA teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with mainframe modernization or integration with distributed/cloud systems.
* Familiarity with DevOps practices or tools in the mainframe environment.
* Exposure to agile delivery methodologies.
* Experience in banking, insurance, or other high-volume transaction systems.
