Location: New York City, NY and other locations such as Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island ( Hybrid ; 3 days On-site)

Duration: Long Term Contract with Possible Extension

Job Description:
The Wireless Access Management (WAM) Engineer will collaborate with the integration vendor to ensure compliance with DIIT wireless network access policies and standards throughout the engineering and implementation phases of the WAM solution. This role will provide technical expertise in designing, configuring, deploying, and supporting wireless network solutions for schools and DOE s enterprise network. The WAM Engineer will troubleshoot technical issues during implementation, manage progress reports, and escalate issues as needed.

Key Duties Include:

  • Design Review & Implementation: Review and implement wireless network devices and connectivity for schools and DOE s enterprise network.
  • Engineering Support: Support network infrastructure operations through coordination with internal support teams, ensuring continued optimal performance of the network infrastructure.
  • Network Hardware Compliance: Maintain compliance with defined architecture standards by ensuring all network infrastructure hardware aligns with DIIT standards.
  • Collaboration with Network Teams: Interface with WAN support, LAN support, network integrators, DOE network engineers, and classroom connectivity engineers to ensure proper placement of network hardware into the DOE enterprise topology.
  • Integration & Troubleshooting: Provide engineering-level 3 support during network infrastructure deployments, reviewing proposed work plan submissions, and ensuring they meet DIIT standards.
  • Configuration & Problem Resolution: Configure routers, switches, and firewalls to enable school data networks, providing related problem resolution as necessary.
  • Vendor Collaboration: Work with WAN carriers and ISP providers for data circuit provisioning and connectivity enablement. Lead efforts to resolve any connectivity issues.
  • Network Validation: Use DOE integration tools and the NOC Inventory Collection Engine (NICE) database to validate the As- Built submissions from vendors, ensuring compliance with DIIT network standards.
  • Network Management Tools: Utilize network management portals like vManage and Meraki Dashboard for monitoring and troubleshooting network issues.
  • Real-Time Support: Provide real-time support during equipment installations at school and administrative sites, including troubleshooting network and system issues.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure consistent quality through the development and enforcement of automated tools, validating processes, and providing necessary documentation.
  • As-Built Verification: Validate and verify the network integrator's work, ensuring it adheres to DOE network standards.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience supporting daily operations in routing, switching, firewalls, wireless networks, and VPN technologies.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco Nexus and Catalyst Switches (6xxx, 5xxx, 4xxx, 29xx, 19xx), Cisco Routers (7500, 7200, 4000, 3600, 2600), Cisco VPN 3000, and related devices.
  • 7+ years of experience with hands-on configuration of Cisco switches (C9K, 68XX, 4XXX, 29XX), Cisco routers (C8XXX, ISR 29XX, ISR 4XXX), Cisco ASA 55XX firewalls, and Meraki MS devices.
  • 4+ years of experience working with large LAN/WAN infrastructures and knowledge of communication protocols, Cisco equipment, and networking technologies.
  • 2+ years of experience creating network diagrams, floor plans, and schematics using Visio.
  • 2+ years of experience responding to emergency calls in the evenings and on weekends for WAN/LAN outages.
