Data Management and Governance Specialist

Overview: We are seeking a Data Management and Governance Specialist to support our financial services operations, with a focus on Collibra, business process analysis, and stakeholder engagement. This role is crucial in ensuring data standards and reporting needs are met. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, communicate effectively, and translate business needs into actionable data strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and production of Collibra, including business lines, definitions, and metadata.
  • Engage with users to gather information and requirements.
  • Review user data, produce statistics, and support regulatory reporting (without owning it).
  • Create standards and rules to ensure data quality and usability.
  • Conduct meetings, present findings, and quickly understand business needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, query, and manipulate data according to defined business rules and procedures.
  • Manage pressure and a changing work environment while handling inquiries timely.
  • Review and understand logical data models, working with the tech team to ensure proper data management implementation.
  • Establish partnerships with source system data owners to document data requirements and understand data scope, limitations, and linkages.
  • Work on dashboard requirements to report metrics.
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of work, conducting research on queries before submission.
  • Perform root cause analysis for data errors and identify remediation steps.
  • Ensure adherence to data quality standards.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested by managers and other leaders.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with implementing and measuring data quality and controls.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to understand compliance policies.
  • Strong organization, documentation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor s degree in finance/accounting preferred, but open to other fields with extensive training provided.
  • Banking, product/financial services, and/or auditing or compliance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of structuring data environments and applications that use big data processes is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with issue management systems.
  • Familiarity with logical and conceptual data models is a plus.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Experience in the financial industry with an understanding of banking/business processes (e.g., accounts, collateral, relationships).
  • Information systems experience flexibility on tools, but a strong interest in the work is key.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings, present, and ask the right questions.
