Job Title - Taxonomist II
Location - Fully Remote
Contract Duration - 6-months contract (Potential to extend)
Pay Range - $50-$55/hr. on W2, DOE
Description
Summary
The main function of a Taxonomist is to create a granular taxonomy of e-commerce products with detailed attributes that will help sellers create the most effective listings, help buyers find the product that they're looking for, and help everyone have the very best experience using Marketplace.
We are looking for someone with 3+ years of experience working on taxonomies and labeling programs. The person in this role will support Marketplace as well as number of other high priority Commerce and Vertical initiatives. This person will partner closely with the Taxonomy team as well as engineering stakeholders to work on a variety of front-end user experiences and backend modeling. This work typically focuses heavily on model QA and analysis, detailed labeling, and taxonomy design.
The scope of this role is supporting all Commerce related taxonomy work, prioritizing Marketplace Signals team who is creating genAI content understanding models that power various user experiences. This role also provides occasional support to the Catalog and Shops teams for product understanding as well as genAI.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee GenAI and ML model output to ensure content quality standards across various user experiences
- Work closely with partner teams to provide analysis on model outputs with suggestions for improvement
- Maintain and design the product taxonomy for Client Marketplace through extensive competitive research
- Reference and follow industry best practices for taxonomy development and maintenance
- Partner with stakeholders to launch new commerce experiences that utilize taxonomy such as navigation, filters, merchandising units, and recommendations.
- Consult with internal product partners to expand our taxonomy to support product and business goals while remaining faithful to underlying structures.
- Develop, manage, maintain, and iterate on a unified taxonomy for all of the products that can be bought and sold on Client Marketplace
- Build out categories and custom collections of products that power features like recommendations, similar items, merchandising themes, and more
- Manage, maintain, and iterate on product attributes that power ranking models, structured content, faceted search, product comparisons, and more
- Make recommendations about ongoing taxonomy management as well as product strategies and features that rely on taxonomy
- Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into useful and valuable product experiences
Top 3 Skills:
- Experience with evaluating and implementing taxonomies to support systems such as search systems, content management systems, digital asset management systems, or product classification. (required)
- Experience with taxonomy management tools and platforms (Semaphore, PoolParty or other internal/proprietary tools)
- Familiarity with data science and machine learning concepts, including classification, training fata and model evaluation, Proficient in Excel and Google sheets
Nice to have skills :
- Previous e- commerce experience
- Experience with scripting language such as Python or SQL proficiency (preferred not required)
- Experience in analyzing large volumes of data with SQL or other query languages
Skills:
- Ability to use taxonomy management systems to maintain categories, attributes, and other metadata
- Ability to move fast and work with cross-functional teams on big, ambiguous problems
- Ability to build alignment amongst distributed stakeholders
- Ability to build taxonomies and related features for e-commerce web sites, apps, software or others
- Experience with E-commerce taxonomy work
- Taxonomy background / understanding the principles, 3+ years of taxonomy experience, experience with genAI or prompt engineering,
- Labeling and QA testing and analysis, familiarity with taxonomy management software
- Effective communication skills and attention to detail
