We are seeking a UI/UX Front End Developer with Spring Boot and Microservices experience to join our team in Ashburn, Virginia.
The UI/UX Front-End Developer will actively engage in designing and building single-page applications using modern JavaScript frameworks and libraries. The candidate will work closely with UX teams, product owners, and users to create intuitive, accessible, and responsive interfaces. The candidate will build reusable components, support UI architecture, contribute to UX improvements, and work in an agile team to deploy applications in the cloud using DevOps tools. The position will be involved in the full cycle of application development from designing, coding, testing, deploying, and monitoring.
Qualified applicants may be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information. This is a highly technical position; individuals will be screened by peers in a technical review of skills and experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The candidate will be responsible for:
Designing and developing user-friendly, responsive UI screens and components following UX guidelines, wireframes, and prototypes.
Building single-page applications using Angular (v12+), TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, SASS, JSON, and UI frameworks.
Working closely with UX designers to refine user flows, improve usability, and deliver accessible (508/WCAG) front-end experiences.
Developing reusable UI component libraries and packaging shared modules (NPM packages).
Integrating UI with backend RESTful microservices and Spring Boot services.
Using modern software engineering tools and methodologies, including Visual Studio Code and Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence).
Working with users in an Agile development approach to understand requirements, elicit feedback, and refine solutions through demonstrations.
Supporting UI performance tuning, layout optimization, and component-level enhancements.
Participating in design reviews and documenting UI/UX design details according to system lifecycle methodology.
Work Experience:
Required:
Recent 5 years’ experience developing front-end applications using Angular (Preferred in Angular version 12 or above).
Advanced-level experience in UI performance tuning and component/layout design.
Strong understanding of UI/UX principles, responsive design, and user-centered design practices.
Proven knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 (flexbox, grid), SASS, JSON, and theme development.
2 years’ experience in state management (NgRx).
Experience developing reusable components and libraries (building NPM packages).
Experience working with microservices design patterns and integrating with REST APIs.
Experience working with Git operations such as branching and merging.
Preferred:
Experience in designing and implementing J2EE software applications.
Experience in querying using SQL.
Experience developing unit tests using frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, ng-mocks, or Cypress.
Familiarity with backend development Spring Boot restful services and microservices (Spring Cloud).
Work experience with Java or Python preferred.
Familiarity with automation testing tools such as Cypress, Selenium, and JMeter.
Experience with UX tools (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch) is a plus.
Job Skills:
Must have strong HTML5, CSS3, JSON, and CSS framework skills.
Ability to translate wireframes and UX prototypes into production-ready UI code.
Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively to develop innovative UX/UI solutions.
Ability to develop and maintain components with stringent performance requirements.
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field with applicable experience is required. Applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
This federal program requires the candidate to be a United States Citizen.
Must have a current CBP BI clearance or be eligible to obtain one.
Any related UI/UX, software engineering, or technical certifications are desired.
Communication Skills:
Solid ability to interface, inspire, and motivate at various levels of the organization.
Ability to convey technical and UX information to non-technical individuals.
Demonstrated experience communicating effectively across internal and external teams.
Must work well in a matrixed Agile team environment.
Work Location:
Onsite in Ashburn, VA
Environmental Requirements:
Mainly sedentary; in an office environment.
May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds.
Flexible in working extended hours.
