Job Title: Senior Mainframe Developer
Location: Columbus, OH (Hybrid)
Employment Type: W2 Only
Duration: 12+ Months
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer to design, develop, and maintain mission-critical mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM, along with a strong understanding of legacy system modernization. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance, optimize, and migrate mainframe systems while ensuring high performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, debug, and maintain COBOL programs, JCL (Job Control Language), CICS, and DB2 databases.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into efficient mainframe solutions.
- Optimize and refactor legacy code for performance and maintainability.
- Work with VSAM, IMS DB, and other mainframe file systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, providing Level 3 support.
- Collaborate with teams on mainframe modernization (e.g., migration to cloud, microservices).
- Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers.
- Ensure compliance with security, audit, and regulatory standards.
- Document technical specifications, workflows, and system changes.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 13+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe development (COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2).
- Strong knowledge of VSAM, IMS DB, and mainframe utilities (SORT, SYNCSORT, IDCAMS).
- Experience with DB2 SQL, SPUFI, QMF, and stored procedures.
- Familiarity with z/OS, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and debugging tools (Xpediter, Abend-AID).
- Understanding of SOAP/REST services (CICS Web Services, API integration) is a plus.
- Knowledge of Agile/Waterfall methodologies and DevOps practices for mainframe (CI/CD).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with mainframe modernization (microservices, cloud migration, Java integration).
- Exposure to Python, REXX, or Assembler for scripting/automation.
- Knowledge of mainframe security (RACF, ACF2) and scheduling tools (CA-7, Control-M).
