Electrical Engineer

Core Requirements & Expectations:

• Location & Schedule: This is an on-site position in Palo Alto, requiring a five-day-per-week presence.

• Succession Planning: The ideal candidate will possess the potential for future leadership, eventually assuming the responsibilities of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer, who has over two decades of service with the organization.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

• Industry Experience: Demonstrated experience within the medical device industry is highly advantageous.
• Professional Experience: A minimum of five years of direct, hands-on Electrical Engineering experience is required.
• Technical Background: Proficiency in embedded systems development (ARM) is essential.
• Specialized Systems: Experience with high-voltage and high-current systems is a significant asset.
• Leadership Potential: While not strictly mandatory, prior management or leadership experience is considered a plus.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The Electrical Engineer will collaborate closely with the technical team to develop and support the product line of aesthetic medical laser systems. Key responsibilities include:

• Electronic Design: Engaging in electronic design activities, including simulation.
• Component Selection: Thoughtful selection of parts, considering factors such as obsolescence, availability, and cost.
• PCB Design: Utilizing Altium Designer for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design.
• Embedded Controller Development: Developing embedded controllers, specifically ARM-based systems.
• System Interconnection Design: Designing system wiring harnesses and cables.
• Testing: Conducting both hardware and software testing.
• Compliance: Ensuring system compliance through rigorous testing.
• Prototyping & Rework: Participating in prototype construction and Surface Mount Device (SMD) rework.

Required Technical Expertise:

Candidates should possess specific experience in the following areas:

• Power Electronics: IGBTs, Mosfets (for power switching and motor control switching supplies).
• Sensors: Pyroelectric detectors (for instrumentation, sensor interfacing, and electro-optical applications).
• Analog Design: Constant current sources and general analog design principles.
• Power Supplies: Expertise in switching power supply design.
• Magnetics: Knowledge of magnetic circuits and transformers.
• Data Conversion: Experience with Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) and Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs).
• Communication Protocols: Familiarity with I2C, SPI, and other communication buses.
• Amplifiers: Proficient in the application of Operational Amplifiers (Op Amps) for various analog signal processing tasks.
• Digital Design: Foundational knowledge of digital design and interfacing.
• Robotics: Understanding of robotics concepts, including kinematics, motor control, and control systems.

Educational & Experiential Requirements:

• Experience: A minimum of five years of direct Electrical Engineering experience.
• Education: A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree is mandatory.
• Power Systems: Demonstrated experience with systems involving voltages up to 1000 V, currents up to 400 Amps, and power up to 4 KW.
• Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively within an engineering team.
• Power Supply Design: Specific experience in designing switching power supplies.
• Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, with a project-oriented approach.
• Industry Preference: Candidates with experience in the medical aesthetic industry will be highly preferred.
