Job Description
Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more - we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.
At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We're creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security vision. We're erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We're advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation. And we're reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity.
Join us in shaping a new era in space and find a career that's built for you.
Orion is NASA's spacecraft that will take humans deep into space. No other spacecraft in development has the technology needed for the extremes of deep space, such as life support, navigation, communications, radiation shielding and the world's largest heat shield that will support astronauts and help return them safely home.
Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor creating Orion. We are in the production phase and have finalized a contract for six Orion spacecraft missions and the ability to order up to 12 in total. The first spacecraft delivered on this contract, Artemis III, will transport the first woman and the next man to the surface of the Moon. Orion is a critical part of the agency's Artemis program to deliver a sustainable presence on the lunar surface and to prepare us to move on to Mars.
What puts Orion in a class all its own? The technology our engineers use to deliver the only exploration class spacecraft to take humans deeper into space than ever before.
We are seeking an experienced software or systems engineer to lead the Denver Orion Utility Network Lab (OUNL) and support Vehicle Management Computer (VMC) Test Bench (VTB) lab operations, including:
Artemis III and future mission oversight of lab requirements, design, integration, test, certification, operations, and maintenance
Lab scheduling and support to multiple users
Hands-on integration and troubleshooting activities
Some 2nd shift/weekend support required
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent engineering work experience
Demonstrated experience providing task assignments with moving schedules and changing priorities
Demonstrated experience in anomaly troubleshooting and problem resolution
Desired skills
Spacecraft or ground network architecture background
Background in an integrated avionics and software test environment
Certified Test Conductor (CTC) experience
Automation Framework and SAP/VECAMS experience
Demonstrated experience developing or executing scripts, test procedures, and analyzing test data
Familiarity with spacecraft architecture and avionics and ground subsystems (i.e., spacecraft and ground network, telemetry and ground processing, displays and controls, GN&C)
Experience reading and working to mechanical and electrical engineering drawings
Demonstrated behaviors of a systems problem solver; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very complex problems and implement constructive change
Demonstrated ability to report hardware/software issues and provide status through clear written and verbal communication
