Aquinas Consulting is currently looking to fill a Sr. Network Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for enterprise-level design and expert-level knowledge of the client’s converged voice/data/video communications network. You will focus on architectural WAN/LAN engineering that ensures performance, security, scalability, and best-practice design while supporting virtualization to deliver application-aware, cost-effective network services. You will oversee performance management and reporting across all enterprise networks and extranet connections to business partners, providers, and vendors.

Job responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in engineering enterprise-wide network systems for optimized performance, transport, and availability
  • Lead design and implementation of next-generation network technologies including convergence and service virtualization
  • Design end-to-end architectural integrity for successful technology implementations
  • Provide expert-level support to engineers and network personnel
  • Evaluate, test, select, and implement network hardware, software, and strategies for security, availability, and flexibility
  • Perform network planning across all technologies including convergence, virtualization, and WAN protocols
  • Ensure best-practice change management processes for all network devices
  • Oversee configuration and firmware/software maintenance for routers, switches, appliances, and wide-area connections
  • Consolidate and report enterprise-wide network performance and capacity data
  • Maintain documentation, diagrams, and design artifacts for WAN, LAN, and VPN architectures
  • Research and recommend new technologies and upgrades to support business needs
  • Serve as a resource for IS teams, vendors, business partners, and affiliates for problem identification and resolution
  • Assist in assessing needs, structure, staffing, and systems required to deliver world-class voice/data/video network capabilities
  • Identify and implement opportunities for virtualization and cost-saving technologies
  • Support IS strategic and tactical projects requiring network expertise
  • Act as liaison with physician practices, RHIO, and other partners for data/voice communication operations
  • Work with stakeholders to analyze needs and develop cost-effective solutions
  • Establish benchmarking criteria for WAN and LAN utilization
  • Recommend and implement actions to meet service level requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through seminars, vendor meetings, and professional literature
  • Participate in councils, improvement teams, and committees as required
  • Maintain compliance with quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
  • Provide upper management with technology demonstrations, feasibility studies, project plans, progress reports, and quarterly service reviews

Sr. Network Engineer qualifications:

  • 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in network systems analysis and design, including at least 2 years of engineering experience in multi-site WAN architecture
  • Expertise in:
    • High-availability, high-capacity multilayer (data/voice/video) network design
    • Routing and switching with embedded security and performance intelligence
    • WAN protocols and secure logically partitioned designs
    • Extranet technologies, firewalls, and VPNs
    • Network topology design and multilayer virtualization
    • Unified Communications optimization
    • Wireless networking, LAN, and outdoor point-to-point wireless
    • Network disaster recovery
    • TCP/IP including IPv6
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to design technical solutions aligned to business needs
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, IS, or related field preferred; advanced degree a plus
  • Knowledge of Cisco and Juniper routing/switching architectures, network security, virtualization, and IP Telephony
