This position will be based at VPE Thermal's Sacramento, CA facility. The Resident Engineer will report to the Manager of the Intermediate Heat Transport System (IHT) as part of the Nuclear Island Systems and Components group, supporting and coordinating cross-functional, multi-disciplinary design activities.

Occasional travel to corporate offices will be required to meet with project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous project oversight and management of the supplier in design for manufacturing assessments, material procurement, and fabrication work for the project at the supplier's site.

  • Proactively identify emerging issues, barriers, or trends, and recommend resolutions to technical and quality challenges. May be directly responsible for resolution planning and execution at times.
  • Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure resolutions are effective and satisfactorily completed.
  • Support System One's design teams by facilitating regular and organized technical interfacing between internal and supplier stakeholders, including identification, planning, and facilitation of digital forums and in-person meetings.
  • Identify and resolve delivery issues (such as material or fabrication schedule issues, fabrication sequences, logistics, etc.) in coordination with design and procurement teams.
  • Interface with project management personnel on issues related to schedule, budget, or other project management functions, as needed.
Key Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: Minimum B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline. Other engineering fields may be considered if the candidate has relevant experience. M.S. degrees may be credited for up to two years of experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of project engineering and/or component fabrication experience, preferably in nuclear power or other high-integrity applications.
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated experience with ASME BPVC Section VIII highly desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex multi-disciplinary engineering issues and drive resolution between stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Experience working to a nuclear quality assurance program (10 CFR 50, Appendix B).
  • Capable and willing to relocate to Sacramento, CA for extended assignment, with periodic travel to corporate or client sites.
  • Team-oriented and able to work effectively with geographically distributed and international team members.
  • Ability to work in a first-of-a-kind environment requiring knowledge-based decision-making, strong engineering judgment, and proactive issue management.
