JOB SUMMARY:

The qualified candidate will be working in the Revenue Fare Management Systems team performing back-office web application development. Their work will support the Rail Road's legacy revenue applications and aid in ramping up development efforts for the New Fare Payment System project and the roadmap to merge and unify LIRR and MNR revenue applications.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Accomplished at collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to develop high-quality code, expert at solving complex problems, and advise on design issues.
  • Understanding of the how develop successful online customer experiences
  • Experience building web-based applications and APIs
  • Solid understanding of AJAX, HTML, JavaScript and CSS
  • Solid understanding of Python and API Development
  • Solid understanding of SQL and Oracle PL/SQL
  • Understand key server-side web development concepts through experiences
  • Experience in windows and Linux OS Scripting languages (PowerShell, bash)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement custom modules and APIs in Python
  • Support Troubleshooting of Client Workstation Applications
  • Participate in daily meetings and regular planning and review sessions. Interact with cross-functional teams to ensure complete delivery of web applications.
  • Provide documentation and participate in code reviews, planning sessions and routine status stand-ups.
  • Provide accurate level-of-effort time estimates and provide recommendations for feature prioritization
  • Assist in release/deployment planning and execution activities
  • Create visually appealing interfaces
  • Create, edit or modify templates for CMS or web development frameworks
  • Test cross-browser, cross-platform, and/or cross-device compatibility
  • Test for compliance to standards, such as accessibility, in the clients' region or domain
  • Conduct observational user testing and review designs against usability heuristics

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related field (or combined with related experience)
  • Understanding of HTML, JavaScript and CSS
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment, deadlines and new challenges
  • Knowledge of SEO coding best practices is a plus
  • Experience in web application development with minimum 2+ years' experience Python programming
  • Knowledge and/or advanced level Python, SQL / Oracle PL/SQL
  • Experience with object-oriented design and data modeling
  • Familiarity with user experience design principles and processes
  • Experience with third-party applications/tools and integration
  • Knowledge of web application security considerations
  • Working knowledge of AWS Cloud Technologies
  • Experience with source/version control systems (GIT)
  • Experience with Java desired
