ASSYST is seeking a Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer for our client headquartered in Austin, Texas.
This role involves highly advanced, senior-level systems administration supporting agency mainframe applications and infrastructure. The Systems Programmer will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the z/OS operating system, handling configuration, break/fix support, security, and performance tuning while coordinating with Network Administration, Customer Support, and Applications Development teams.
Job Location: Texas (Fully Remote)
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary Subject Matter Expert for z/OS operating systems and components. Provide technical support for planning, implementing, and testing releases, upgrades, or changes to the OS, network, and component software.
- Manage system parameters, system libraries, and routine maintenance. Provide input for hardware capacity planning and system-wide performance tuning to meet service levels.
- Provide primary administrative support for CICS and IMS , as well as technical support for Mainframe Production Control and the monthly Job Scheduler.
- Provide primary administration and end-user support for SCLM (Software Configuration and Library Manager) and ISV products such as BlueZone.
- Perform security administration support, including base user account creation and security monitoring.
- Monitor system performance, diagnose platform/software issues, analyze root causes, and provide recommendations for capacity planning.
- Coordinate day-to-day break/fix system support and troubleshoot software and product issues.
- Act as a technical lead on internal team projects and participate in cross-functional project teams impacting the z/OS platform.
- Provide technical consultation to other IT teams and support the integration testing of new products with existing applications.
- Oversee and coordinate mainframe operations within the State s Consolidated Data Center Services (DCS).
Required Skills:
- 5 Years: Experience with z/OS Systems Programming.
- 5 Years: Experience with JES2, z/OS Unix System Services (OMVS), and Storage Management Subsystem (SMS).
- 3 Years: Experience with TSS (Top Secret Security).
- 3 Years: Experience with performance monitoring, including the initial analysis of performance issues.
- 2 Years: Experience with REXX scripting
Preferred Skills:
- 3 Years: Experience with Informatica Power Exchange Administration (specifically for Change Data Capture using IMS and VSAM).
- 3 Years: Working knowledge of z/OS Operations and z/OS Networking (VTAM, TCP/IP).
- 3 Years: Working knowledge of SMP/E, RMF, SMF, WLM, and JCL.
- 3 Years: Working knowledge of GRS, VSAM, and TSO.
- 3 Years: Experience with TLS configuration (Certificates, SSL RSA Keys, SFTP, FTPS).
- 3 Years: Experience with SCLM (configuration and administration) or similar configuration management tools.
- 3 Years: Working knowledge of Automated Job Scheduling (JOBTRAC), Terminal Emulators (BLUEZONE), and VTAM Session Managers (VTAM/SWITCH).
- 3 Years: Experience with CPM for JOBTRAC.
