Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer Lead with deep expertise in mainframe development and support. The ideal candidate will lead technical design, development, maintenance, and modernization of mission-critical applications. This role requires strong leadership, hands-on coding ability, and the capability to guide teams in delivering high-quality, reliable mainframe solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of mainframe developers in designing, developing, testing, and deploying enterprise applications.
- Provide technical leadership in COBOL, JCL, REXX, and other mainframe technologies across the full software development lifecycle.
- Analyze, design, and implement solutions using DB2, SQL, VSAM, CICS, and related tools.
- Oversee code promotion, version control, and deployment processes using Endevor.
- Debug and troubleshoot complex issues using Xpeditor, Intertest, Abend-AID, File Manager, and other diagnostic tools.
- Optimize performance of batch and online applications using SYNCSORT / DFSORT utilities.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, best practices, and security protocols.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, propose solutions, and ensure successful project delivery.
- Support production systems, investigate application failures, and implement preventive measures.
- Prepare and maintain technical design documents, workflows, and operational guides.
- Mentor junior developers and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience in COBOL, JCL, REXX, and mainframe application development.
- Proficiency with DB2, SQL, VSAM, and CICS transaction systems.
- Deep knowledge of tools including Endevor, Xpeditor, Intertest, Abend-AID, SPUFI, QMF, File Manager.
- Experience with data manipulation and batch processing using SYNCSORT / DFSORT.
- Solid understanding of mainframe debugging, performance tuning, and production support.
- Ability to lead teams, manage deliverables, and drive technical direction.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
