Department Overview
The Electric System Planning - Distribution Planning team ensures safe, reliable and efficient operation of the electric distribution system by providing timely and innovative engineering and technical support associated with the planning, design, construction and maintenance functions. Distribution System Planning has overall responsibility for the utilization of area and equipment capacity, voltage, power factor support, and the protection of the primary electric distribution systems.
Position Summary
This position is a senior level distribution engineer within our distribution planning protection department focused on power system related tasks related to the electrical protection of the electric distribution system. Successful candidates will be able to leverage senior engineer level knowledge of power system fundamentals as well as distribution protection to solve challenging problems related to system reliability, safety, and wildfire ignition prevention.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
Travel up to 10% may be required to attend meetings, field site visits, etc.

Job Responsibilities
- Able to perform the job duties of the journey level distribution engineer
- Performs protection studies and develops protective device settings in accordance with established company standards
- Reviews protection related schematics, logic diagrams, and settings for distribution related protection projects including circuit breakers, line reclosers, interrupters, and fuses
- Assists in developing training, standards, and templates for implementation of protection practices for the distribution system
- Develops distribution automation and control schemes
- Provides technical training, coaching and mentoring to associate and journey level engineers
- Interfaces with control center operations, substation test department, and distribution line technicians to support implementation of protection features into protection equipment
- May assist in communicating with regulators, customers and other external stakeholders to advance PG&E's objectives
- Works with limited guidance to complete assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards, and assignments that require integration of information from a variety of sources
Qualifications
Minimum:
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from a college/university accredited by ABET
- 8 years of experience in engineering and design
Desired:
- Professional Engineer Electrical license
- Experience as Electric Distribution Engineer
- MS Degree in Electrical Engineering
