Web Designer Entry Level

Web Designer I

$88,566.40 - $117,832.00 / Annually


Are you a creative thinker with a passion for web design? We re looking for a talented Web Designer to support our Creative Services team in enhancing user experience and bringing fresh, engaging ideas to our web presence. In this role, you ll be responsible for updating and maintaining our existing websites, designing compelling graphics for digital use, and contributing to the design and development of new web projects. DESPCRIPTION

This entry-level role offers an exciting opportunity to support the design, maintenance, and enhancement of departmental and agency websites across the County. The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for design, solid communication skills, and a collaborative mindset. While experience with WordPress, Magnolia, or OpenText is not required, familiarity with these content management systems (CMS) is highly desirable.


Job Duties include:


  1. Take care of content updates and maintenance across department websites using a variety of CMS s.
  2. Collaborate with customers to understand their web needs and turn ideas into clean, easy-to-use pages that follow County standards.
  3. Structure content in a way that makes it clear, organized, and user-friendly.
  4. Edit and test pages to make sure they look great and work properly on all devices and browsers.
  5. Design and post graphics and content that enhance the overall site experience.
  6. Regularly test sites for accessibility and help fix any issues to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
  7. Stay up to date on the latest tools, trends, and best practices in web and graphic design.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience developing or managing websites/page content and performing basic computer graphic web design.


Education Substitution:

Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units of Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Graphics, or Web Design courses from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of web usability, accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2,1 AA), and responsive design principles.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and web editing tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Figma is preferred.
  • Experience working with a CMS is required.
  • Familiarity with WordPress is preferred; experience with Magnolia or OpenText is desirable.
