About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr IT System Engineer with at least 7+ years of experience to design, implement, and maintain our on-premises IT infrastructure, working with technologies like SAN Storage, vSphere VxRail, Backup, Linux and Windows OS, PowerShell, Terraform, and Ansible. The ideal candidate should be collaborative, tech-savvy, self-learning, and have strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • SAN Fabrik Storage Network: Design, configure, and maintain SAN (Storage Area Network) fabric on Cisco MDS Switches. Implement zoning, masking, and other SAN management practices. Monitor SAN performance and troubleshoot storage-related issues.
  • Virtualization: Design, implement, and manage virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere or KVM), manage hyper-converged solutions like VxRail and vSAN clusters, optimize virtual infrastructure for performance and scalability, and troubleshoot virtualization issues with root cause analysis.
  • Backup & Storage: Design and implement backup solutions for servers, virtual machines, and data, manage backup schedules, retention policies, and disaster recovery plans, perform regular backup tests to ensure data integrity, and design and implement File Services (NFS and SMB) solutions.
  • Datacenter Management: Install, configure, and maintain rack-mounted servers, manage hardware upgrades and replacements, and ensure server security and compliance with best practices.
  • AWX Ansible: Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Ansible and AWX, develop Ansible playbooks and roles to automate routine tasks and integrate Ansible with other tools and systems for comprehensive automation.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot system issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Kubernetes: General Knowledge of the On-Prem Kubernetes platform. Design & Build Physical Compute resources for the On-Prem Kubernetes platform
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless IT operations, document SOPs and architectural designs, plan capacity for all services, participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergencies, and stay updated with industry trends to recommend new technologies or practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience with vSphere, VxRail, and Open Source Hypervisor for designing and managing virtualized infrastructure.
  • 7+ years of experience with SAN Fabric Network and Block, Object, and File Share Services.
  • 5+ years of experience with Rubrik backup solutions or similar data protection technologies.
  • In-depth understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems, including administration and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of Scripting languages like PowerShell, PowerCLI, and automation tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A self-motivated and proactive approach to learning new technologies and staying up to date with industry advancements.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
