Top Skills We're Looking For:
- 2+ years of low voltage experience
- Proficiency in terminating and testing cable
- Experience with fiber optics
- Experience in commercial construction
- Ability to perform closet build outs (IDF/MDF)
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Cable installation
- Understanding of color codes
- Familiarity with IDF/MDF environments
- Material management and client interaction
- BICSI certification
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
As a Communications Technician you will:
- Install work area outlets (CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks), mount faceplates, and adhere to IES labeling standards
- Build closets: install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber hardware
- Terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels; install grounding for racks and equipment
- Perform cable testing and troubleshooting (continuity, shorts, opens, tone set usage)
- Identify active voice/data circuits
- Lead crews, coordinate timelines, and train team members
- Complete all IES paperwork accurately and on time
- Follow all safety and quality standards
Tools You'll Use:
- Screwdrivers, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves
- Punch tools (110/66 block), tone set, crimp tools, Krone/3M/BIX tools
Work Environment:
- Indoor/outdoor settings
- Primary site: Data Center in Goodyear
- Additional sites: Phoenix metro area
- New construction environments with limited climate control
- Physical work: walking, hauling materials, working at heights (ladders/lifts), IDF room setups
