Job Description: Our client, a large defense contractor, has an immediate opening for an Advanced Electrical Engineer to work from their Middletown, RI facility. A s an Advanced Electrical Engineer, you'll be a member of or lead a cross functional team dedicated to the development of military-grade electronics and underwater acoustic systems.

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience. ship is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Analyze and design analog and digital electronic circuits including signal conditioning, power, analog-to-digital conversion, transformers, inductors, amplifiers, and communication
• Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and verify electrical hardware
• Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems including test software applications
• Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions
• Design, analyze, and test underwater acoustic systems
• Design and build prototype cable assemblies
• Perform solder rework of prototype circuit card assemblies
• Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer
• Generate design and interface documentation

Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation and test phases
• Working knowledge of op-amps and transistors
• Experience with analog and digital circuit design including signal integrity principles
• Experience with transformers and inductors, and how to size them including key parameters such as flux density magnetizing current, leakage inductance, transformer and inductors losses and temperature rise.
• Working knowledge of common communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-485, USB, CAN bus, LVDS, and protocols such as TCP and UDP
• Proficiency in all phases of PCB design, including: creation of high-level functional and architectural diagrams, SPICE analysis, power analysis, component selection, schematic entry (OrCAD Capture experience a plus), and working with the PCB layout team to optimize placement, signal integrity, fitment, etc.
• Familiarity with underwater acoustic principles
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Experience with the following a plus: battery systems, electric motors, and MATLAB programming
