Overview
The VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant Fluid Systems section consists of two groups: 1. Reactor Plant Fluid Systems and 2. Steam Plant Fluid Systems.
These groups are cognizant over respective piping systems and responsible for developing sound technical solutions to emerging construction and test problems arising at new construction shipyards (Electric Boat's Groton Shipyard and Quonset Point Manufacturing Facility as well as at Huntington Ingalls Industries - Newport News Shipbuilding). Additionally, the VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant Fluid Systems groups, as the lead design yard, are responsible for maintaining the design and procurement requirements of their respective system, including any qualification testing and construction integration of design changes within their systems.

Responsibilities of this position include
- Proactive engagement with pipefitting, welding, and mechanical Trades and test organizations to avoid potential pitfalls and overcome barriers to ensure first-time quality and on-time completion of work.
- Developing technical rationale and sound engineering recommendations to the prime contractors (KAPL, and BPMI) and to the Navy for approval of non-conformances.
- Conducting and facilitating feasibility studies, design development, and on-hull implementation of system design changes to incorporate performance, acoustic, or manufacturability improvements.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technology degree
- 0-2 years of professional engineering experience
Preferred:
- Bachelor's of Science or higher in Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 2-5 years of professional engineering experience
- Active DOD Secret clearance
- Prior Naval Nuclear Program experience

- Above average written and verbal communication skills
- Organization, self-motivation, desire for continued learning, and a questioning attitude
- An experienced mentor will be assigned to each engineer and on the job training is expected
