Project Background & Details:
- This role supports the CSS contract, which is guaranteed active through September 2028. The candidates contract is renewed year by year.
- The position is fully onsite at JB Pearl Harbor Hickam, Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week.
- The team consists of 12 people.
- The candidate will work alongside Cisco, another vendor, and active-duty Air Force personnel.
- This role will have a direct impact on maintaining and evolving the network infrastructure within a large DoD environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Function as the senior network engineer responsible for design, configuration recommendations, integration plans for 3rd Party network devices, and validation procedure documents. The technician has primary responsibility for drafting the engineering and architectural diagrams, along with operational checklists for all projects.
- Manage enterprise datacenter switches throughout a large DoD environment. Experience should include provisioning of these devices for Unified Computing (i.e. virtual call managers), Thin Client deployments, and SharePoint deployments.
- Provide engineering and configuration of network devices in support of Zero/Thin Clients deployments to include experience in deploying this capability on existing infrastructure (category 5e cable and fiber) while ensuring that a users' experience is the same or better than what they currently have (decreased login times, application availability increased, enhanced data delivery).
- Manage network capabilities where bandwidth and access issues create unique challenges. This includes large areas and land masses that are disconnected and separated.
- Provide customer support and troubleshooting for datacenter networks and coordinating with Government Network Control Centers and Higher Headquarters along with evaluating existing customer network systems in order to support the business case for upgrading platforms.
- Plan and coordinate network configurations with enterprise technicians and network infrastructure configurations with the local base. Plan and coordinate servers chosen for physical to virtual at the base with base enterprise technicians and A3/6 personnel.
- Perform first line trouble-shooting activities (if required) for installed environments in conjunction with remote enterprise technicians and local base technicians and act as a technical resource to assist with resolving critical customer issues.
- Lead efforts for all LAN/WAN related projects, upgrades, testing, training, and outages with a strong understanding of the NIPR and SIPR networks.
Required Skills & Technologies / Certifications / Clearance:
- Secret Clearance required.
- Experience with:
- Cisco Nexus platform devices
- Brocade and Juniper switches and routers
- Routing, switching, and network virtualization
- Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) preferred but not required.
- Alternatives like CompTIA Net+, CCNA and/or CCNP are acceptable.
- Cisco is onsite and offers free training opportunities.
- Candidates from Navy, Marine Corps, or Air Force backgrounds are welcome.
