Summary of Responsibilities

The BI & Data Solutions Lead is responsible for maintaining Texas RE's data warehouse to support business intelligence and predictive analytics initiatives. This role will participate in the selection of data warehousing and ETL solutions, ensuring a scalable and maintainable platform that meets the organization's needs.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders to develop reporting and visualization capabilities using tools such as Microsoft Power BI, ensuring that Texas RE employees can effectively analyze and utilize data for decision-making. Additionally, they will provide guidance and training to business users on BI tools and data best practices.

This position reports to the Director, IT Infrastructure & Cyber & Physical Security.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain business intelligence solutions using tools like Microsoft Power BI, providing dashboards, reports, and real-time analytics for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with business units to identify key data sources and define data models for predictive analysis and strategic decision-making.
  • Lead the activity and operations of the Texas RE data repository, integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Evaluate and recommend ETL solutions, determining whether to build or buy components of the data pipeline.
  • Establish processes to ensure data reliability, accuracy, and consistency across all sources.
  • Document data management, transformation, and analysis best practices to support ongoing data initiatives.
  • Participate and support Texas RE committees, ERO activities, and industry working groups/task forces.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on BI tool usage, with future training on SQL querying as needed.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership and business units to align data strategy with organizational goals.
  • Provide ongoing development and maintenance of data stores and/or warehouses to ensure scalability, security, and availability.
  • Ensure that data security and governance practices align with Texas RE's security policies.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, data mappings, and training materials.
  • Participate and support Texas RE committees, regional activities, and industry working groups/task forces.
  • Perform other tasks and activities as assigned.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
  • OR six (6) years of related work experience in addition to the minimum work experience requirement.
Experience & Skills
Required
  • 3+ years of experience using Microsoft Power BI or an equivalent reporting/visualization tool.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into structured data solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience providing training and supportto employees on BI tools.
  • Strong SQL skills for query, data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
  • Experience working within a data warehouse or similar structured data environment.
  • Experience working with ETL processes and data integration methodologies.
  • Ability to assess, recommend, and implement BI and data warehouse solutions.
Preferred
  • Experience using databases and data warehouses (e.g. SQL, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, AWS Redshift).
  • Familiarity with ETL processes
  • Familiarity with API-based data integrations.
  • Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.
