Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Messaging Engineer with deep expertise in hybrid messaging environments combining Microsoft 365 (M365) and on-premises Exchange. This role is ideal for a highly technical engineer who can design, implement, and optimize enterprise messaging solutions across complex environments. The ideal candidate brings strong scripting skills, deep understanding of Azure integration, and preferably merger & acquisition (M&A) experience to support messaging transformations during corporate changes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement hybrid messaging environments integrating M365 (Exchange Online) with on-prem Exchange Server.
- Architect and lead migrations between Exchange versions and to/from M365, including tenant-to-tenant migrations.
- Configure and maintain back-end Exchange infrastructure (databases, DAGs, mail flow, certificates, connectors).
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation, reporting, and configuration management.
- Collaborate with security, networking, and identity teams to ensure messaging infrastructure is secure, resilient, and scalable.
- Integrate messaging solutions with Azure AD, Conditional Access, and related services.
- Support projects involving M&A activities, including domain consolidation, mailbox migrations, and coexistence planning.
- Troubleshoot complex messaging issues across hybrid environments.
- Stay current with Microsoft roadmap updates and recommend adoption strategies for new features.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience supporting and engineering Exchange Server (2013/2016/2019) and Exchange Online.
- Proven experience designing and managing hybrid Exchange environments.
- Strong PowerShell scripting capabilities for automation and operational efficiency.
- Solid understanding of Active Directory, DNS, mail routing, SPF/DKIM/DMARC.
- Experience with Azure services relevant to messaging (e.g., Azure AD, AAD Connect, Conditional Access).
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex backend messaging issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with M&A messaging integration or divestiture scenarios.
- Familiarity with third-party migration tools (e.g., Quest, BitTitan, TransVault).
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-203, AZ-104, MS-700) are a plus.
- Knowledge of compliance, retention policies, and messaging security best practices.
