Ardent is seeking a Web System Administrator/Programmer to join our team.
This is a an on-site position at the NOAA Inouye Regional Center in Honolulu, HI supporting the National Weather Service Pacific Region (NWS PR).
Position Description:
In this role, you will be responsible for developing, supporting, and optimizing mission-critical software and database systems that power NWS PR’s web-based applications. You will work across multiple technologies to improve data ingestion, storage, processing, and delivery—ultimately helping to enhance the effectiveness of national weather operations in the Pacific region.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Improve data ingest, storage, and processing for all NWS PR applications.
- Manage and enhance applications written in web scripting languages such as: PHP, JavaScript, Google Apps Script, HTML, CSS
- Provide database support for MySQL 5.x and PostgreSQL 9.x (with geo-referenced extensions).
- Develop, maintain, and audit weather-related and statistical databases.
- Implement robust query, reporting, and analytical capabilities for internal systems.
- Support web-based data services, including: SOAP and REST
Requirements:
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in web development (PHP, JS, HTML/CSS).
- Experience with Google Apps Script and API integrations.
- Proficiency with MySQL and PostgreSQL databases (geo-data experience a plus).
- Familiarity with web services protocols (SOAP, REST).
- Demonstrated understanding of IT security concepts and tools.
Knowledge of contingency planning, backups, and recovery best practices.
General Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Strong time and project management skills.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel.
Other Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Ability to pass a background security check.
- Must obtain a valid passport prior to contract start.
- Fully trained and qualified to meet all technical and general requirements.
- Personal development training is not billable to the government.
