Role Overview
The DBA is responsible for maintaining the health and performance of over 100 SQL Server databases across 102 servers. Responsibilities include monitoring resources, managing logs, troubleshooting reporting issues, optimizing queries, supporting ETL processes, and assisting development teams with schema and query tuning. The role also covers security, access controls, disaster recovery, cloud integration, and collaboration with multiple teams.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor SQL Server system resources and identify expensive queries.
Review SQL Server and Windows logs for anomalies.
Manage scheduled jobs, notifications, and real-time troubleshooting.
Perform database performance tuning, index analysis, and storage management.
Manage user permissions and ensure data security (including CCURE9000).
Support data migrations and upgrades from legacy SQL Server versions.
Collaborate on ETL processes, SSIS package updates, and application support.

Minimum Required Experience and Skills (8+ years each):
- SQL Server administration (installation, configuration, upgrades - SQL Server 2012/2016/2019).
- Database performance monitoring and tuning (CPU, memory, I/O, queries, indexes).
- Backup and recovery (native SQL Server tools, Azure SQL, disaster recovery planning).
- Security and access control (role-based access, authentication, encryption, compliance).
- ETL and SSIS development (package management, ETL workflows, schema/query tuning).
- Job scheduling and automation (SQL Server Agent jobs, notifications, routine maintenance).
- Log analysis and troubleshooting (SQL Server, Windows, application, security).
- Index and storage management (analysis, space utilization, resolving bottlenecks).
- Migration and upgrade projects (planning, execution across dev/test/prod environments).
- SSRS and reporting services (configuration, troubleshooting, support).
- Collaboration and knowledge transfer (cross-functional teamwork, documentation).
- Cloud integration (Azure SQL, BacPac file generation, hybrid environments).
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience supporting TxDOT database administration.
