Renowned for industry-leading crash safety, Tesla relies on innovative vehicle designs, and in this role, you will analyze and optimize structural performance. Collaborating with vehicle engineering teams, you will evaluate future vehicle designs, and work alongside test engineering teams to develop tests, correlate simulation models, and enhance the predictive capabilities of analysis engineering at Tesla. This position demands technical excellence and the ability to thrive in a diverse, cross-functional team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop finite element models for analysis and optimization of crash and durability load cases, performing linear and nonlinear analysis on structural components from subsystems to complete vehicles
  • Conduct computer simulations for vehicle frontal crash, side impact, roof strength, and HV battery systems, ensuring simulation results comply with various crash and durability safety requirements
  • Challenge established CAE methods and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Utilize CAE tools to optimize performance for body, battery, closures, chassis, and other subsystems
  • Provide design direction to engineering teams based on analytical findings
  • Rapidly adapt to necessary tools, modifying or creating new tools as required
  • Deliver analysis on complex projects under tight timing constraints

Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Detailed knowledge of finite element analysis, applied solid mechanics, material science, and numerical methods in a product development environment
  • Applied software experience with CAE pre-processors, solvers, and post-processors such as ANSA, Primer, LS-DYNA, HyperWorks, and Meta
  • Experience with aluminum, steel, composite structures, and advanced joining methods for crashworthiness
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively on challenging problems requiring innovative solutions
  • Strong skills in deconstructing complex crash test scenarios with logical and analytical approaches
  • Basic proficiency in scripting with Python or native software tools
