Selected individual will be expected to travel to the Chicago office once a month or once every other month for meetings (client will pay travel expenses).

This individual will be the primary Power BI developer responsible for owning the end-to-end design and development of dashboards, data models, and reports that drive business insights. The ideal candidate must be capable of working independently with minimal support, demonstrating senior-level technical depth, business acumen, and best practices in BI solution delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the go-to Power BI developer for the team, leading dashboard design, data modeling, and reporting solutions.
  • Engineer scalable, user-centric Power BI solutions based on business needs with an understanding of trade-offs and best practices.
  • Build and optimize semantic data models in Microsoft Fabric, especially in OneLake, for use in Power BI reporting.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to translate business questions into actionable insights and visualizations.
  • Participate in the full BI development lifecycle: requirements gathering, data modeling, report/dashboard development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Collaborate with other team members who may handle Python, PySpark, or pipeline development in MS Fabric.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of overall Business Intelligence (BI) development
  • 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development, including strong command of Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
  • 1+ year working within Microsoft Fabric, specifically semantic data modeling and using OneLake.
  • Proven experience as the primary BI developer responsible for delivering complete solutions with minimal guidance.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles, DAX, Power Query, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to work independently in a small team and proactively engineer BI solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience building pipelines in MS Fabric.
  • Knowledge of Python, PySpark, or Spark for data analytics.
  • Previous experience in an Azure environment beyond Power BI Service.
