Resource 1 is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Power BI Engineer with strong experience in Microsoft Fabric to join a small, high-impact analytics team. This is a 6-month contract-for-hire position and candidates must currently be located in one of the following states: AZ, FL, IL, IN, KY, MI, MO, PA, or VA. Selected individual will be expected to travel to the Chicago office once a month or once every other month for meetings (client will pay travel expenses).
This individual will be the primary Power BI developer responsible for owning the end-to-end design and development of dashboards, data models, and reports that drive business insights. The ideal candidate must be capable of working independently with minimal support, demonstrating senior-level technical depth, business acumen, and best practices in BI solution delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the go-to Power BI developer for the team, leading dashboard design, data modeling, and reporting solutions.
- Engineer scalable, user-centric Power BI solutions based on business needs with an understanding of trade-offs and best practices.
- Build and optimize semantic data models in Microsoft Fabric, especially in OneLake, for use in Power BI reporting.
- Work closely with stakeholders to translate business questions into actionable insights and visualizations.
- Participate in the full BI development lifecycle: requirements gathering, data modeling, report/dashboard development, testing, deployment, and support.
- Collaborate with other team members who may handle Python, PySpark, or pipeline development in MS Fabric.
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of overall Business Intelligence (BI) development
- 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development, including strong command of Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- 1+ year working within Microsoft Fabric, specifically semantic data modeling and using OneLake.
- Proven experience as the primary BI developer responsible for delivering complete solutions with minimal guidance.
- Strong understanding of data modeling principles, DAX, Power Query, and performance optimization.
- Ability to work independently in a small team and proactively engineer BI solutions to meet business requirements.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have:
- Experience building pipelines in MS Fabric.
- Knowledge of Python, PySpark, or Spark for data analytics.
- Previous experience in an Azure environment beyond Power BI Service.
