SQL DBA
SUMMARY
The SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is a critical role within our IT department, responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, security, and integrity of our SQL Server databases within our 24 x 7 Production, Test, and Development Environments. This position will oversee day-to-day administration of data storage for the companies Key Applications. You must be able to utilize effective techniques in planning, estimating, controlling, and completing assignments within the committed time constraints and will need to effectively handle multiple assignments concurrently, in coordination with other IT personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, Install, configure, upgrade, patch, migrate, backup, restore, recover, troubleshoot, and tune SQL Server databases in a 24x7 production environment.
- Ensure the security, availability, and integrity of databases.
- Monitor and Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, implement changes, migrate, and upgrade database software/patches/versions.
- Implement and manage database security measures, including user roles and permissions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
- Collaborate with other teams to improve database performance, stability, security, and availability.
- Develop and maintain database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions.
- Develop and document processes, methods, procedures, and tools for diagnosing and fixing known bugs and problems, improving efficiency, and performing common tasks.
- Provide support for database-related issues and queries from other teams.
- Perform day-to-day administration and review of existing Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Assist staff and management in addressing complex database issues and tasks.
- Develop, design, and maintain SQL Server reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Write complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from various databases.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather report requirements and ensure accurate and timely delivery.
- Create and maintain documentation for report specifications, processes, and procedures.
- Optimize report performance and troubleshoot any issues related to report generation.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity in all reports.
- Provide training and support to end-users on how to use and interpret reports.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in SQL Server reporting and data visualization.
- Work independently and with little or no supervision on all DBA tasks.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures.
- Understanding of database security practices.
- Ability to write complex SQL queries and optimize them for performance.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Knowledge of database design, implementation, transaction processing, referential integrity, performance tuning and monitoring.
- Working knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages, and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) development/deployment
- Basic knowledge of operating systems and systems administration concepts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Extensive Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server
- Previous experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery Practices
- Previous data warehouse and BI development experience
- Microsoft Certifications
- Previous Experience with other Database Systems (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc)
- Previous Experience with Cloud Services (AWS, Azure)
- Microsoft Dynamics AX, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, MySQL, Numina RDS, ADSI, Windows Server 2016/2012/2008R2, and .Net programing
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field as in information Technology/Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years' experience in database administration including (stored procedures functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes and constraints) within Microsoft SQL Server.
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar are a plus.
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
- Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
- Proven experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Proficiency in managing databases on cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Understanding of cloud security principles and practices to protect data in cloud environments.
- Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate database tasks.
- Proficiency in using AI tools to derive insights from large datasets.
- Ability to integrate machine learning models with databases to enhance data analytics.
- Familiarity with other reporting tools like Power BI.
